Very good low-light point-and-shoot camera

wgiambatista, Ebay
5 December 2013
  • Summary: I bought this camera strictly for it's supposed low-light capabilities--and it's TRUE. I can now take picturees in a gym or auditorium w/o a flash and w/o the need to carry my true SLR with me. Just this point-and-shoot does the job!

An older camera that was the best for indoor or low light, and still is

go-for-blane, Ebay

  • Summary: This is the legendary F30, little prince of indoor and low-light photography. It's what I carry around now. It uses XD cards which have gone out of style and I've only seen 2GB versions max of the type but it's good enough for my purposes. The XD card thing is why I only gave this product 4 stars not 5. My laptop has a build in SD card reader and it would have been nice to take advantage of it, but no biggie.

FujiFilm F30 - a good low-light pocket-sized camera

wa2til, Ebay
3 July 2010
  • Summary: This camera is very similar to its successor, the Fujifilm F31FD. Consult dpreview and steves-digicams for the technical details. The obvious question regarding this camera is: Why should I pay so much for a 6 Mpel P&S camera from 2006? This is a deceptively simple camera that produces extraordinary results in low-light. By simple I mean the camera isn't riddled with dozens of buttons, e.g.

Nice little camera

  • Summary: This camera is replacing an older Sony 3MP point and shoot camera. The main reason I wanted the Fuji F30 was the quality of the low-light photos. It really does take good photos in low-light situations. Too bad this camera is no longer in production and the follow-on models are reportedly not quite up to the image quality of this camera. The only drawback so far is the need to purchase xD picture cards.

Great product

  • Summary: Takes Great indoor and medium / low light pictures. Could be a little better for outdoor landscapes. It's not the pefect camera for vacation landscape pictures, but can do fine with most of those, if you try various settings. For every other pict. type, (street, people, low light, etc.) it is execlent for it's cost and size. Ability to do semi-manual settings really is worth extra costs, and some of the presets can get interesting (good) results.

Very happy with this camera.

A. Aguilar, Amazon

  • Summary: I bought this camera for my wife for Christmas. I was also considering the Canon SD700 IS which was more expensive but has an optical image stabilizer. Our previous camera was an 2 MP Olympus. That camera took OK photos, but was incredibly slow and had a horrible screen. We also wanted something that could take good photographs in low light, such as restaraunts or a lit-up Christmas tree.

A few other points

David Filice, Amazon
11 October 2006
  • Summary: Other reviews are quite extensive on the F30. I just wanted to add that I discoverred that, while Fuji says you must use slow type M XD cards, the camera works fine and fast with the older plain XD cards. 512MB says I have about 180 pictures to go, which is plenty for me. Auto mode defaults to ISO1600 and never switches to ISO 3200, even in pitch blackness. To get ISO3200 you need to be in "Manual." Movie mode makes huge AVI files. The "stabilization" labels are a lie.
