Good Canon camera, but skip Focus

Richard C.Walters, Amazon
26 July 2014
  • Summary: The Canon Powershot SX50 is a great camera, but I suggest buying it straight from Amazon, without the $14 Focus package. Skip the $14 of extra stuff from Focus. I kept the little tripod and threw away the other Focus junk.

  • Excerpt: Purchased camera for a bird watching trip to Costa Rica. One week into trip camera stopped working. Others on trip with same camera had similar problems. This was an expensive trip in which I had no camera for most of it. Fortunately the retailer I purchased it from gave me a full refund.

GREAT CAMERA UNTIL IT GOES BAD AND YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE

B. Tollz "photozazen", Amazon
19 July 2013
  • Summary: I loved this little camera. Great features and photos. In first couple weeks had a problem--the screen regularly froze and camera turned off. Fortunately Amazon as always was great and I returned for another. After 6 months the zoom started wobbling. Sent it to Canon for repair.

Picture Quality Not So Great

Mbowe, Amazon
27 May 2013
  • Summary: I mainly bought this camera for it's long zoom feature and was excited to use it to compliment my DSLR. Unfortunately, I can never get a good picture out of this camera. Maybe it's just me since I'm used to seeing my DSLR shots, and this is not a DSLR, but nevertheless the image quality is very...

Poor image quality even in bright sunlight

Bob, Amazon
22 May 2013
  • Summary: I use my cameras almost exclusively for nature shots - long shots for birds and mammals, close ups for butterflies and moths. On the plus side: (1) Canon kept the pixel count at 12 MB and did not succumb to the temptation of overstuffing 20Mb onto the small sensor, as the SONY HX300 did.
