Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Review

What Digital Camera
13 August 2013
  • Summary: The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS is a camera that combines an amazingly long zoom lens and a set of enthusiast and novice features, all packed into a surprisingly small bridge-style body and keeping it all relatively easy to use too. Honestly, make no mistake, that’s no mean feat.
  • Pros: Focal range; Handling; Image quality; RAW and RAW +JPEG capture; Accessory hot shoe
  • Cons: Focus performance; Low power built-in flash; High ISO noise; Lack of Raw in manual modes

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS

Pocket Lint
22 October 2012
  • Conclusion: The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS lands one big punch with its 24-1200mm lens. But it's not all 100 per cent rosy: the limited aperture at the longest focal length will force use of higher ISO settings and the lens is trying to do so very much that some softness and colour fringe issues can't be ignored.
  • Pros: Raw shooting, decent optical image stabilisation system, vari-angle LCD, among the best superzoom image quality at lower ISO settings, close-up macro mode
  • Cons: Chromatic aberrations, limited maximum aperture at longer focal lengths (and less bright than predecessor), auto-area focus can decide to focus on some strange areas, small viewfinder, shorter battery life than predecessor, stabilisation struggles at longest focal lengths

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS review

TechRadar UK
15 October 2012
  • Summary: Canon's superzoom bridge packs a whopping 50x zoom
  • Pros: 50x zoom range, Raw format shooting, Articulating screen, Low image noise, With many great features onboard the Canon SX50, picking one feature is difficult. But, what probably stands out the most is that incredible 50x optical zoom lens, giving this camera huge appeal to travel, wildlife and fam...
  • Cons: Poor EVF, It's a shame that at the widest end of the optic, the camera couldn't boast a wider aperture, because that would have really been the icing on the cake for this great bridge camera.
