Summary: This was an upgrade from an older version of the powershot and I loved that camera and this one has proved to be even. Features I liked are still there plus I have video in the same camera and it is great.
Summary: I found out about this camera from my brother-in law. He raved about it as did others. We also own a Canon SX260, which my wife now uses. Both cameras are excellant, but I would rather take the SX40 with the viewfinder in bright conditions. The images are some of the best I have seen. I recommend this camera to anyone. (substitutes are SX30 (older) & SX 50 (newer) with a 50X zoom.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Tilt /Swivel LCD, Viewfinder
Summary: I bought this to replace my old Powershot which had lots of buttons on the frame for macro, portrait, etc. I like to be able to do closeup of flowers, bugs, etc. occasionally. While this camera focuses really great at a distance, the macro feature is really complicated to use so your subject may fly away before you ever get your photo. Hard to focus. I really liked my old camera and this one is a big disappointment.
Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Tilt /Swivel LCD
Cons: Bad Macro Hard To Use, Poor In Low Light, SOMEWHAT COMPLICATED
Great point+shoot ease w/powerful zoom that ups enjoyment of taking photos!

Summary: Bought camera just 10 days before a trip to Ireland. I'm totally thrilled with the beautiful shots I got--landscape, close ups, zoom shots, low light. I was not familiar enough to use any setting besides 'auto' and was still pleased with the results. I did print out the highly informative instructional guide but it was much too big to pack along in my suitcase.
Summary: After trying the newest Canon model with 50X zoom, I decided the 35X is a better choice. The 50X seems to be "over-zoomed", causing delays in focus and a bit of peripheral graininess to pictures at maximum settings.
Summary: This camera is absolutely AMAZING!! I went to an iris festival this weekend, and I was finally able to capture the real beauty of the flowers. I am an amature, and this camera made it very easy for me! I haven't even had a chance to try out all of the different features and I am already happy with my purchase. Highly recommended!
Summary: First picture I took was of the moon to check the zoom. I now have pictures of moon craters! Zoom is outstanding! Other pics that I've taken are just as good. Very happy with the performance of this camera. I was worried that I couldn't take as good of pics as the SLR that I wanted but not anymore. Great camera.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /Swivel LCD
Summary: Great camera. Has a lot of features that makes it really nice for taking pictures for any occasion. I use it frequently for everything from everyday pictures to special occasions. Picture quality is great. The "CONS" I have for this camera is: 1. You can't make any movement of the camera when zooming. BUT this is something that was stated in other reviews, I just didn't realize how bad it really was. When zooming you really need to use a tri-pod. 2.
Super price to value point and shoot, but with a few flaws in construction.

Summary: This is a great product for the price range but there are some challenges with it. It is a bit slow especially when you have the camera's computer doing many of the calculations an experienced photographer would have set manually. Also if you are use to holding your camera by the lens, the outer lens housing is not fixed very well on this unit and slides off easily, requiring it to be re-glued on.
