Not As Good As the SX260

Hobbes, Canon
28 November 2014
  • Conclusion: I got this SX280 HS when my SX260 HS was lost. The image quality is okay for a normal point-and-shoot, but this is considered a high-end point-and-shoot. Image quality is a bit poor, despite having the settings at best quality. The SX260 HS this camera replaced actually had better image quality (fewer artifacts, crisper images, etc.).

  • Conclusion: Great camera. Easy operation, stunning videos. But battery does not last long especialy on videos. Need two or three if on vacation or away from power for charger. The only thing I really hated about this camera...was it lasted only a 11 months. wont power up. bought a new battery but still no response. took good care of it too. never got wet or dropped. just Died.
  • Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, nice images, impressive videos
  • Cons: Short battery life, didn't last long, poor battery life

Poor Video Battery Life Great Camera

SLR Joe, Canon
6 April 2014
  • Conclusion: Used the camera on a recent trip to Peru, took over 2500 photos and some movies. Camera is a Cannon, known for their world class cameras, enough said. Only disappointment was the battery life on video. Purchaised three batteries because I did not want to be without power on the trail. From my experiance, I would agree, need to modify firmware to change voltage monitoring under hi load situations like video. Is it hi-def processing power that is causing the problem ?
  • Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, wi-fi capable
  • Cons: Short battery life

Short battery ife

Smed, Canon
26 January 2014
  • Conclusion: Good quality camera with many technically advanced featured. I bought the camera because of the advertised long battery life. My previous Power Shot A570 IS had terrible battery life. Well, this one isn't much better but at least they are rechargeable. Also, the pop-up flash is under my left index finger and pushes it off when activated so I turhed off the flash.
  • Pros: solid camera
  • Cons: Short battery life, pop-up flash in bad location

  • Summary: I have owned Canon digital cameras for years and find this one much bigger and heavier than the most recent compact digitals I have owned. I thought I was getting basically the same I had before but not. I get confused when the flash pops up to fire and have not been able to use the Wi-Fi feature for it cannot find the signal. Maybe later! It is just bigger and bulkier than I expected. I recommend going to a retailer that has it and see it and hold it before ordering.

Love the zoom

The Goldwinger, Canon
13 September 2013
  • Conclusion: I bought this camera to replace my other older Cannon that quit working on my first day of vacation. The Zoom is very powerful if that is what you need. And the pictures are very good quality in the full auto mode. if you use the video mode it will do about 45 seconds to one minute of video and the Battery is dead but if you turn it off and back on you can get a few more pictures out of it. But the battery life is definitely the shortfall for this camera.
  • Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
  • Cons: Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu

Battery & firmware problems

Robacurrie, Canon
16 July 2013
  • Conclusion: This could be a great camera for all it does well: Excellent auto features, manual control and low light performance. However, even though the firmware update was loaded prior to a recent holiday in the UK, I found it almost impossible to use the video function due to an error in battery life monitoring.
  • Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
  • Cons: Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu, firmware problems
