Canon PowerShot SX280HS Review

What Digital Camera
16 July 2013
  • Summary: The Canon PowerShot SX280HS costs around £250, making it look a reasonable buy, but that’s richer than similar cameras such as the Nikon Coolpix S9500 .
  • Pros: Low image noise; Wi-fi Transfer features; Image quality and colour; Compact design; High Speed 14fps continuous shooting; Build quality
  • Cons: 14fps is only achievable when in special High Speed mode; Auto pop up flash positioning; Disappointing battery life

Expert Review

11 July 2013
  • Summary: The Canon PowerShot SX280 HS has the ability to capture great action shots and close-ups, and you can use it in low light situations. The photo quality you get is much higher than that of a smartphone camera, and its compact size makes it good for traveling.
  • Pros: The Canon SX280 HS offers outstanding photo and video quality, and it has a lot of modes and settings to give you control and variety.
  • Cons: This camera has a short battery life, and the Wi-Fi is difficult to set up.

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS review

1 October 2013
  • Excerpt: Pocket ultra-zoom cameras make great travel companions, so we're happy to see GPS and Wi-Fi built into the Canon SX280 HS. GPS means you can see exactly where you were when you took a photo, and Wi-Fi lets you upload to a smartphone and onwards to social media from virtually anywhere in the world.

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS

Pocket Lint
9 May 2013
  • Conclusion: The SX280 HS doesn't add much compared to its year-old SX260 sibling. We would rather have seen the addition of a touchscreen LCD and broader, more accessible autofocus options added on instead of the Wi-Fi feature which, in its current state, is just a bit of a faff to use.
  • Pros: Best-in-class image quality for a 20x zoom compact, decent image stabilisation, full manual control, Wi-Fi may have occasional use, close-up macro mode
  • Cons: Limited autofocus options, no touchscreen, no raw, 500mm has f/6.8 max aperture, colour fringes visible, Wi-Fi a faff to use, Wi-Fi battery drain
