Excerpt: I have had the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS for about 2 years and it's rugged and went everywhere with me. I've even printed some of the shots in a BLURB book and you can't tell which shots I took with my Nikon DSLR's or this camera! The zoom was why I originally bought the camera- 14X which was very good at the time it came out. I mostly used the camera for it's HD video and it never disappointed. It was great in all lighting conditions.
Summary: I've had my Powershot SX230 HS for over 3 years now (purchased in December 2011). It's been all over the place with us: Disneyland multiple times, a Caribbean cruise, weekend trips, San Diego beaches, everywhere. It takes great pictures outside, and pretty good ones inside. Sometimes the pictures turn out kind of dark but not nearly as bad as some other cameras I've tried.
Summary: So if you buy this hoping for a red case camera, you will be disappointed. The color is a hot pink. The quality of the images is great. I love having a dial to change the settings quickly. Yes, for some options, like low light, I have to deal with the menu buttons. Took some great sunset images in Key West. And while no camera can capture all the colors the human eye can see, this is a point and shoot that can do a fair job at color capture.
Summary: I was ready to replace my Canon A630 with something a little more up to date, and this filled the bill. Admitedly, my familiarity with Canon made the learning curve short. The one thing I was looking for was a longer zoom. It has really made a difference when taking a long range landscape shot; you can crop the picture before you take it. I really don't use a lot of the sophisticated features that these cameras offer, but little by little I am getting educated.
Summary: My daughter bought this camera specifically for going to concerts. The quality of the video and photos she takes with this camera are awesome. Even when she is far away from the stage, she is able to zoom in and get really good quality shots. But, be sure to keep an 2nd, fully charged battery on hand, as the camera uses the battery up quickly when using the video feature.
Summary: I really like my new Canon powershot SX260. Pros: The zoom is just amazing; accessories are good; tried the video in full HD and its great; camera modes are good; Cons: Little heavy; felt the battery drained out fast when I used the video mode; didn't know how to use GPS; Overall its a great camera if I don't want to carry my SLR. It fits in your pocket and has great MP and Zoom.
Excerpt: I am amazed at how much Canon has packed into this small package. Camera itself works fine and has a spectacular zoom range. GPS is reasonably quick to lock in. I am reaching the 2 yr mark with this camera and have no significant complaints. This is the camera that is ALWAYS with me. Catches a lot of the shots that otherwise would have gotten away.
Summary: This canon is as good as any and better than most. The sharpness is extremely good at all focal lenghts. However the image stabilization struggles a bit and you may have to hold the camera for a while while it locks on. Once it does the image will be sharp and crisp. The auto mode is a bit soft in both contrast and sharpness. Both issues can be addressed in the my colors mode. Low light ability is fine, just do not expect what you can get from a Canon S95, or S100.
