The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS is a digital camera equipped with Canon’s HS SYSTEM that supports shooting in low-light, Full 1080p HD video, and comes with a new Movie Digest Mode and 32 Smart AUTO scenes. The camera is part of the company’s PowerShot line that includes the "HS" suffix to represent the inclusion of the HS SYSTEM. The HS SYSTEM is a technology used to optimize image quality in low-light situations without the need for a flash. The digital camera also features Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor which when combined with a High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor, reduces noise at high ISO levels and expands the camera’s range.

The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS also allows users to shoot HD video, and supports Dynamic Image Stabilizer, the new Movie Digest mode that lets users shoot a short video before capturing a still image and then combine the videos into one clip. The camera also features advanced Smart AUTO with 32 different shooting scenes that automatically selects settings that match the scene without the need to switch modes. Other features on the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS include Advanced Subjection Detection which is the new addition to Smart AUTO function. This function automatically identifies certain objects and triggers the Servo Auto Focus/Auto Exposure to adjust focus and exposure of the moving subject as it is tracked; Toy Camera effect which adds a grainy, blurred look to soften photos, illustrating an old-school, 1960’s appearance; Monochrome effect that gives users options for black-and-white, blue or sepia tones. Available in black, red and blue, the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS also features a 12.1-Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS Sensor with 14X Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stabilization. It also features a wide-angle 28mm equivalent lens which provides users with a wider range when capturing group pictures, and a 3.0-inch LCD screen for composing and viewing shots. The camera also has a GPS feature which pinpoints the exact spot an image was taken. The camera collects signals from GPS satellites to obtain the latitude, longitude and altitude and records the information to the image’s EXIF data. The SX230 comes with a map utility software that lets users view the photos on a map and shows the location of where the image was shot. The PowerShot SX230 HS also has an internal GPS logger which track the day’s route on a map. It is available at the end of March for an estimated selling price of $349.99.
