Summary: that's how long the CCD in this thing has lasted. Now every photo has a grey line across it, about a third of the way down. (pentax optio S5i and Kodak 1285 both lasted longer iirc) up until I just noticed, mind, this camera has been brilliant, hence 3 stars. especially if you go to the trouble of loading hacked firmware onto it, so that you have missing features like timelapse... YMMV.
Works well, but only for a couple of years. Spend more on something newer

Summary: Having had a Canon for 2 years, dropped it and it continued to work perfectly, I therefore did not look at any camera not made by Canon when the time came to upgrade. I decided on this model and fell in love with it, pictures were great quality and the camera was easy to use. Then after about 9 months in my possession I went on holiday to Wales.
Summary: I was extremely frustrated with the results I achieved with this camera using the AUTO mode. I even wondered if the focusing system was faulty. Only when I analysed the EXIF photo information did I notice that the camera was defaulting to very high ISO (1600) in most cases unless the lighting conditions were absolutely ideal. But even then it would often use ISO 320 to ISO 800. ISO 100 which is really the ideal for sharp images was practically hardly ever used.
Summary: I bought this camera from Amazon just over a year ago after reading many glowing reviews on-line. Alas it has not lived up to that reputation. My main gripe is the relatively poor image resolution. Close ups are not too bad are fairly sharp but the rest shows a soft image. Compared to an older canon I have it would rate two stars for image quality. I contacted Amazon who referred me to Canon.
Summary: I recently took this camera on a holiday to Australia. I also had a rather similar specification Nikon camera with me, costing about half the Canon price. I could not see a lot of difference between the two for general holiday use, except that the Canon performed better in low light conditions. I have had several compact digital cameras in recent years and I was expecting the Canon SX220 to be head and shoulders above the rest but I can't honestly say that it is.
Summary: The Powershot SX220 HS does take good pictures, but for me the Canon Warranty lets it down. I had the camera for about 6 weeks when i noticed the lens cover would not fully open or close, and because i've had the camera over 30 days amazon did not want to know, so i contacted canon support which was rubbish, the first e-mail i got back was telling me to clean the CF card and the battery, well we all know the SX220 does not use a CF card.
Summary: I was surprised at how plastic the camera is but more than that I am worried at how many out of focus pictures I get on Auto. My old Canon IXUS 90 IS never let me down and was metal cased. It was only old age that made me change it as I do take many pictures. After years of hard use it was getting a problem with the on off button and I so wish I had just stuck to the the same model.
