Summary: This camera is a photographers dream! It is so simple to use. I learned to use it within days on my RV vacation west. The zoom is so fine that standing a distance from Devils Tower, I could clearly see two climbers in the LCD screen. In Sept. 2010 I traveled to many National Parks & Landmarks.
Summary: I bought this for my husband to take close-up nature shots but I've used it more than he has. It takes great photos. And the zoom is so much more than I expected. At a baseball game I could get a close-up action shots of the pitcher and other players on the field. They were great.
Summary: Let me start off by saying that I'm not a professional photographer. My decision to purchase the SX20 IS was based on a desire to get an excellent still shot camera, with high capacity zoom, that also had HD Video (720p) capabilities.
Summary: I love this camera. I owned the sx10is, but recently sold it for this one, with its hd video capability. I feel it is important to immediately address the fine vs superfine imagery quality differance between the two cameras.
Summary: 1 month, 2 states,KS,CO, and 1500 photos later I have yet to be disappointed with my Canon Powershot SX20IS! Super nice, compact, easy to use hiking companion. Excellent photos from macro flowers to 1/2 mile mountain shots of 2 marmots playing in the alpine tundra.
Summary: I think this is a VERY excellent camera and I highly recommend it to anyone. I will admit though that like with most cameras if you don't know what you're doing you can end up with some crappy shots.
Conclusion: I've had this for about eight months now. I wasn't deeply impressed with the full auto mode, as it didn't deliver sharp colors, or always do what I wanted it to do. Once I learned the camera, and went to program or Aperture mode I was much happier. It has options galore.
