Great in Broad Daylight

KENNETH G., Newegg
30 September 2010
  • Summary: The camera also seemed to set the resolution on it's own. I could not figure that out but even with the lower rez and using a high speed (data transfer) memory card I always got a "please wait" after taking a shot so there was no opportunity for continues shooting.
  • Pros: Simple daylight shots in program mode seemed fine. The fact that any information you need regarding the operation is tucked away on a CD is a definite drawback. Newegg was great in taking this back without incident so I will definitely try this again with another model.
  • Cons: I found indoor situations or distance situations difficult to focus correctly. The pictures were grainy and frankly I bought this type of camera to get high end results in a point and shoot format. I have a small another point and shoot that only has a 3X zoom so I wanted a greater zoom, but that...

Camera not for me

Mike K., Newegg
30 August 2010
  • Summary: If you are looking for a camera that will take very sharp and detailed photos keep looking. If you will be satisfied like my wife just taking snap shots and long range shots that are very grainy, than I guess this camera will meet your needs.
  • Pros: The 20x zoom is capable of getting shots that would otherwise be missed. The battery life is outstanding. It has a good solid feel to it.My wife loves the camera and I bought it for her.
  • Cons: I know its not fair to compare this 400 dollar camera to my 1200 dollar Nikon D90 but I have to say I have not seen one photo from this camera that is super sharp. The auto focus is just not there. The photos just lack too much detail for my likes.I have taken hundreds of photos on all settings and...

Too Soft to use

Walmart
13 June 2010
  • Summary: As a professional photographer, the appeal was extremely strong of having a lens that zoomed from very wide angle to a very telephoto lens. A twelve mega pixels image implies a very sharp image. Our business deals in part with pets.

Really disappointed with this camera

Glenn, Amazon
6 June 2010
  • Summary: I upgraded from an S5is (or so I thought) and used this camera to photograph a 300 person event. The picture quality was noticeably inferior to the S5is which I've used the last 3 times for the same event. It was a struggle all evening to get the camera to focus right.

I am not very happy with this camera.

Art Glass Geek, Amazon
5 June 2010
  • Summary: I bought this camera because I am a long time Canon user. I needed a kind of do all camera so I could leave my DSLR at home, zoom, macro, snap shot photos and video. I love the zoom, the macro is okay, the video quality is okay, but doesn't work well in low light.

The Two Steps Back Model

Big Ron, Amazon
5 June 2010
  • Summary: How does the camera that the SX20 replaced, the SX10, become a higher priced model after it is discontinued? Because Canon took two steps back by cramming more pixels into an already small CCD sensor. The images are softer (stills and video). Unless you need HD, you wouldn't want this one.

Disapointing

Lloyd T., Newegg
22 May 2010
  • Summary: I own sx3is, digital rebel, 20d and a 7d. it is a shame canon did not put a bigger sensor in the SX20 is. It would of been their best point and shoot.
  • Pros: Nice HD video. great Auto focus while shooting. Nice controls and feel.
  • Cons: Canon , by increasing the megapixels, had to take out the superfine setting, because of the grainy picture. Therefore every picture is soft. when viewing this at 100% none of the pictures are sharp. I returned this camera and bought a sx10 is. Now I have great pictures again.

Mushy Psssss

Amazon Customer "curlykale", Amazon
14 July 2011
  • Summary: Oh I had great hopes for this camera, long zoom, articulated screen......The image quality in anything less than bright sunlight is awful. In bright sunlight image quality is getting near to a budget DSLR but as light dims it becomes much worse than a normal compact.

Twice Bad

Tony Criscuolo "Cristolfo", Amazon
2 July 2010
  • Summary: I was really looking forward to getting this as an upgrade to my Olympus SP550 UZ. When I tested the camera the stills worked fine, but on video it would only film for 15 seconds then shut down. If I pressed the video button again it filmed once more for only 15 seconds or even less.
