Summary: Any point and shoot camera is going to involve trade-offs. Generally, this is a good camera as long as you are using it for shooting outside in bright light or inside with the flash. Otherwise, it has very poor performance in low-light. I was inside on a bright day and the "camera shake" indicator lit up while I was shooting. The shot turned out blurry - even with the image stabilizer engaged. This happened because the camera was using a 1/15 shutter speed at f2.8!
Pros: Easy to use, Fun, Quality Construction
Cons: Poor operation in low light, Shallow Wide Angle, Shutter Lag
Summary: The Canon Ixus 960 IS has a rather solid and sturdy appearance that truly screams quality and elegance. Upon holding the camera, you can feel the differences in the material and instant know that it is something of substance. Indeed it is, with a body made from Titanium. Even the mention of it would lead you to wonder the amount of physical abuse the camera would be able to withstand.
Pros: Fast processing, good battery stamina, built in image stabiliser, face detection
Cons: Optical viewfinder is disappointing, as a whole some might find its performance slow
Summary: The camera has a lot of great features. Perhaps too many. Can spend a long time working out what to use, but that comes with practice. It is very slow at taking photos. It is not a good camera for action shots. Action pictures can turn out blurred, unless used in a hi ISO mode and then the picture turns out grainy. Hard to find a good balance between shutter speed and exposure. It has a really good macro ability.
Summary: I own several different cameras and went for the IXUS 960 IS mainly because of excellent reviews ( I ACTUALLY PRODUCED VERY CLEAR DETAILED IMAGES ON 36" X 36" PRINTS FROM THE 960-THAT SOME SLR'S ONLY ASPIRE TO) and its obvious qualification for streetwise/ spontaneous use. However, had I tried 'hands on' before purchase I might have decided differently Why?....
Summary: Good camera, but for that sort of money, you're better off getting something with around 10.1M pixels for about £100 less. The difference in quality of 10.1M and 12.1 isnt overly visible to the human eye...
