Canon PowerShot SD200

Digital Photography Interface
3 July 2006
  • Conclusion: The Canon SD200 is a great ultra-compact camera though it lacks "real" manual controls and control over fast shutter speed. Custom white balance and long shutter are a plus on the SD200 as few ultra-compact cameras have such features. The essential scene modes (Such as kids and pets) on the SD200 somewhat make up for the lack of manual controls.
  • Pros: Ultra-compact and stylish design, Extremely fast and almost zero shutter lag, Excellent set of features for such a compact camera, Large and sharp 2.0 inch LCD, Excellent movie mode (Especially VGA 30 FPS and Fast Frame Rate), Overall sharp photos
  • Cons: Limited manual controls, LCD only brightens a little in low-light, LCD almost unusable outdoors, So-so battery life, Flimsy battery/SD slot door, Red-eye, Some soft photos

Canon Powershot SD200 Digital Camera Review

Digital Camera Review
22 May 2005
  • Excerpt: The Canon Powershot SD200 is the entry-level model in Canon's latest line of ultra-compact digital cameras. Together with the SD300, SD400 and SD500 (although the last is a tad larger than the other three), they represent the new generation of Powershot cameras that are characterized by a thin profile, the inclusion of the second generation DIGIC processor, and the capability of capturing video with high enough quality for inclusion into homemade DVD discs.

  • Excerpt: The PowerShot SD200 Digital ELPH ($300) is a totally new design in Canon's line of compact point-and-shoot cameras. The SD200 takes everything that made the S410 great and makes it smaller -- except for the LCD, which got a lot bigger. Other features on the SD200 include a 3.2 Megapixel CCD, great VGA movie mode, an AF-assist lamp, and a couple of manual of controls. For those who want more resolution, Canon also offers the 4 Megapixel PowerShot SD300.
  • Pros: Very good photo quality (though see issues below), Ultra-thin, stylish metal body, Robust performance, Excellent continuous shooting mode (with the right memory card), First-rate movie mode (finally!), Big LCD for a small camera, AF-assist lamp, Optional underwater case, Nice software bundle
  • Cons: Softness around edges and corners of photos; above average purple fringing, as well, Redeye, Some vignetting, especially in flash shots, Ultra-cheap plastic door over memory card / battery compartment, LCD doesn't "gain up" very much in low light, Can't swap memory cards while camera is on a tripod, More manual controls would be nice

  • Pros: supercompact, mooi, gezinscamera
  • Cons: adviesprijs
