Excerpt: Great to carry every day. Just like carrying my old Leica M2, can control most everything manually from the exterior of the camera with the lens dial or simple buttons on the rear of the body.
Excerpt: The best digital compact camera I've had, so far. Excellent in low light - rarely ever I use flash. Very intuitive/easy to use camera - press "on" -> wait 2 sec. -> point&shoot. Excellent image quality, in general. Fast operating even when shoting RAW images ! Very good battery life.
Excerpt: Excellent for compact at low ISO. I 've been using it for 5 months (i bought one second hand for 200€). I also have a Canon 500D 18-200IS. I ve ended up using more the S90 as I can always carry it with me. It is a good camera compared to all compacts.
Summary: I have two Nikon DSLR's. I wanted a small camera to carry around for those times when I don't want or can't lug my bigger cameras around. I chose the S90 because Canon brought out it's replacement the S95, and I knew prices would be decent on eBay.
Camera Geek Alert: Right Camera - If it's the right job...
26 September 2010
Summary: Be warned, I am a self professed camera geek. I believe cameras are like surfboards; you need a quiver of surfboards/cameras for the right wave/job. The Canon S90 is - by far - my new "go to" pocket camera and the one I will always carry with me in my flight bag.
Excerpt: I've had three compact cameras before the S90 and this is the only one that I've really been delighted with. Image quality is vibrant and sharp and, compared to the G9, images look a lot more natural.
Summary: Even in June 2010 I think this is still the best, or nearly the best, camera you can buy for image quality and control, short of a much larger micro four-thirds or DSLR camera. Short of those cameras, only the Lumix LX3 might have a better lens and take nicer pictures than the S90.
Excerpt: AWESOME compact camera. I'm a DSLR user and I get awfully frustrated whenever I use a compact cam. I had a Fuji F30 whose limitations I could live with since its IQ was not bad. I lost it and needed another compact since I can't take my D90 everywhere.
Summary: I've always struggled with finding the right camera for my needs. I'm an avid mountain biker, hiker, cross country skier, among other outdoor activities. I need a camera that can be kept in a pocket, easily accessed and take great pictures.
Pros: Fast Lens, Size, Picture Quality, Durability
Cons: WIthout the custom grip and Lensmate control dial this camera just doesn't work. It's impossible to tell which way the camera is situated in your hand without looking, and you can't just pull it out of a pocket and start shooting. Much more comfortable with both add-ons.
Summary: Notice in the title I call this a "compact camera" not a point and shoot. While you can use this as a point and shot camera in auto mode, this camera is far more. It features a larger imaging sensor than most point and shots. Actually the same as the Canon G11 series.
