Excerpt: Canon Poweshot S5 IS is really a powershot with the power of an SLR. SLR means single lens reflex. SLR camera allows viewing and focusing the subject directly through the lens. The photographer sees exactly what the lens record.
Summary: A super easy camera. This is my second camera of the S5. I replaced a earlier model which, after 5 years in the field had many small problems. This purchase included the original box, all booklets still sealed and every item that was originally included by the first owner. The camera also cam with an extra strap and a beautiful leather case. I have always been happy with all the still and video cameras that I have owned from Canon. A super buy.
Summary: The Canon PowerShot S5 has a combination of features that make it the perfect camera for engineer that has to photograph places that you don't want to put your head in. This is indispensable when you need shots within vessels and process conveyors, etc. You can take the articulated back viewer and rotate to allow you to see the subject while you hold the camera at arms length. This feature is very hard to find in any camera.
Summary: This camera has as much optical zoom as is usable for handheld shooting, and the 8PM resolution is plenty to allow cropping and printing large images. It was the first of the Canon long zoom cameras to include the flash hot shoe, necessary for distant indoor shots. This feature has been taken from newer models, even while they extend the zoom range, Without being too bulky or heavy, this model has the feel of a solid camera.
S5is has its shortcomings, but it serves well with CHDK firmware added.

Summary: Bought a used S5is on ebay back in January 2012 for $120+USD. I'm still using the S5is having developed a love/hate relationship with it. What I love about the S5is: One major improvement is the addition of a hotshoe mount. when shooting in dark areas with bulgy adapters a hotshoe flash is a must have. without the hotshoe there would be darkness in the mid-bottom of my photos just using the onboard flash. SDHC compatibility up to 32gb.
Amazing if you want to take professional pictures.

Summary: The pictures come out looking like your a pro every time. Its easy to operate and very user friendly. It fits into your hand perfectly so not worries of dropping it. The only thing I wish they had included is a rechargeable battery pack or rechargeable batteries and a charger, I mean for the price you pay I don't think it would bankrupt the company to include the one thing to make this camera the best.
Excellent camera if you don't need to constantly remove the memory card.

Summary: I bought the Canon PowerShot S5 IS to replace my S3 IS for no particular reason, just to have an upgraded model that sounded in most camera reviews as a worthy step-up. I used the S3 strictly for eBay photos and I was happy with it. When I tried the S5 I was pleased with the added quality of the LCD screen, higher quality images at 8MP, a seemingly but imagined steadier shooting and, overall a great camera.
