A superb primary camera or backup to your digital SLR

Summary: While the G9 is out of production, a number of professional photographers such as John Fielder continue to keep the G9 as a pocket camera. A number of photos in Fielder's coffee table photo books are taken with a G9 . Its near impossible to find a camera with a comprable robust metal body, high quality optics, and high resolution chip.....
Summary: Great pro quality camera. Fantastic pictures if the photographer does his part. It will keep up with many DSLR's of higher price. This is my second one.Only complaints about it: shutter lag between pushing shutter and shutter actuation is too slow and the optical viewfinder could line up better with the actual image captured. I carry it more than any other camera because it is so handy.
Excerpt: This is such an excellent camera for great pictures, easy to use, do not have to be techno savvy. I bought this as my very first digital camera and an extremely impressed especially with all the different features; 12.1 megapixel,3.0 inch LCD screen for picture viewing. Which is all great for zooming into pictures, croping and enlarging pictures.
Excerpt: Ok so I am a bit of a amatuer photography junkie. I just purchased this camera at the first of the year and I absolutely LOVE IT! I have had several different digital cameras I have to say I am most pleased with my canons. This is an excellent point and shoot style camera that anyone can use that comes with all of the extras that the professionals love. Add that it is a whopping 12.1 MP you just can't get a better deal out there right now.
Excerpt: The G9 is a great alternative to an SLR if you don't feel like carrying something huge, or losing your camera in your back pocket. it's a happy medium. Hi ISO, long exposure capabilities and takes beautiful Macros, my only complaint is that there is no shutter remote.
Excerpt: Love this camera! I bought it after heavy research online, used on ebay. It was still great quality, barely used at all. The ease of use is incredible, and the pictures turn out great! Great zoom, clear and bright pictures, I love it! I always bring it to concerts, and my pictures turn out so great, they look like they could go in magazines!
Excerpt: Yea, yea, this camera is old. Heck there's a Canon G12. But don't overlook this Camera if you ever stumble upon it on eBay or elsewhere - its quite a gem. Compare the newer G series cameras to this one and you wont find much between them. A few more megapixels, a slightly better lense, maybe better video but at the end of the day they are all SLR-replacement style point and shoot cameras with tons of features and shooting options. This camera wears 2 hats.
Start looking around for a new hard drive, you're gonna need it!

Excerpt: Looking for the best Digital Compact camera money can buy? Look no further. This is the creme de la creme, if the end result matters. And no, I'm not on Canon's payroll. Built and Aesthetics This camera was designed with a retro look & feel and if you're an old-school 35mm Leica Compact fan, you're gonna love this. It's also got a good amount of weight as well. I like a bit of weight because it keeps my hands steady. Built quality is excellent.

Excerpt: I will admit that I am the kind of gadget buyer that loves to have the new stuff, but does not always learn how to use all the capabilities. I have however learned to rely on friends that really know their stuff to decide which gadget has the right combination of features and price. Our recent purchase of the Canon G9 was based on at least five different people who are both techie and artsy telling us that the G9 was absolute best compact camera in terms of quality.
Excerpt: My Dad gave me this Canon G9 camera when he realized how crappy my Sony Cybershot was. He had been trying to give me photography lessons from afar because my pictures were so bad, but after seeing the Sony in person, he realized that it was not my fault. * Phew.* When I first got the Canon, my first thought was HOW COMPLICATED THIS IS GOING TO BE but after using it for awhile, I am pleased beyond belief.
