Excerpt: A terribly placed video start button. This is where the exposure lock button used to be on powershots, which was perfect. Now when we go to lock exposure we mistakenly start shooting video. By the time this can be shut off, you miss the shot.
Excerpt: Well I purchased this camera to take to Hawaii while my daughter got married to do some underwater shots. I have been using Canon cameras sense the tx and Ftb came out. This camera does not have any micro capiblity at all. I shot for three weeks everyday underwater.
Excerpt: This camera is so slow, it takes all the enjoyment out of photography, and its macro for all reality does not exsist. I find it funny the other write that said come on its not a dslr its not going to be fast. Let me tell you most ALL point and shots beat this camera and for a lot less.
Excerpt: Well, I'm sorry to say that this product has really left me wondering what's up at Canon... The image quality is good enough at lower ISOs --- BUT the camera response to menu commands, button clicks, multiple shutter exposures is soooooo slow it reminds you of the early digital cameras..
Summary: I needed a versatile camera for use on the river trip, shooting landscape and action. Landscape picture are OK , however the action multiple shots can not use RAW files, instead camera changes setting to jpeg format. Slow focus is also a big problem. Night pictures are good.
Summary: I have owned many Canon cameras dating back to the seventies. This is not one that I would recommend as it is too slow, bulky, and you can buy a Canon T6i with many superb qualities and cost slightly higher than this unit.
Summary: Updated review... My wife received the Panasonic DMC-ZS40K Digital Camera as a gift shortly after I gave here the Canon G1X. I hate to say, but the Panasonic is a far better camera than the Canon. In every way the Panasonic shoots better pictures easier than the Canon.
If I had a chance to test it first, I would not have bought it

Summary: The camera was designed by people who do not have to use it. I bought it to carry around on vacation. It is lightweight indeed and it produces good quality images, but so do other 500 models on the market. The s/w is unnecessary complicated but the camera comes with no paper manual.
Summary: worst camera ever-- the camera so slow it take you about 30 sec before you can shoot another photo. this is a problem since the shutter button is so sensitive that when you hold the button down to compose your photo, the camera takes a shot, making you miss the photo you want. / .
