Excerpt: I purchased my G16 in April 2014 and after using it several times, discovered I was having the same issues my G12 had, exposures that turned out completely white or under exposed images even though the flash functioned. I sent the camera back for warranty repair and hope that solves the problem. I hope the G16 doesn't have sensor issue like the G12!
Conclusion: Within a week of opening the box, my Powershot (G16) failed, again. because of its fragile lens construction. My former G10 succumbed to 'lens error' after 3 years, the G16, which is noticeable flimsier, lasted a week of light use, handling with kid gloves. Also, the battery life is much shorter. And the case gets worryingly hot after only an hour's intermittent use. If you want a camera for cocktail parties and christenings, the G16 is the ultimate tool.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Flimsy Construction, excess heat during moderate use, over mechanised
Summary: I do not like the Canon G16. I had the G12 which I was very happy with. The newer model made changers in the screen eliminating a screen cover and a unique screen viewing platform that could vary your way of viewing your photo before shooting. No directions for use or description of the camera and its workings was included in the package. A camera case was included in the package for use with a smaller camera. I would like to return it.
Summary: Wanted an upgrade from a c. 2007 compact I had so I got the G16. Punchy price but worth it, I thought. Not so. Very disappointed by the sharpness of the photos even though lighting was excellent etc. Zoom is unimpressive versus some of the competition. In short, it's not much of an upgrade.
Summary: I have had 2 Canon G series cameras before buying the G16. The G12 was, for me, the best model as it had the flip out screen on the back. You can compose pictures from angles that you would have to guess at with the G16, which doesn't have the flip out screen. For street photography it's a must, giving you confidence and discretion to take some great pictures with getting noticed to much or challenged by anyone.
