Excerpt: Having owned large Canon SLRs for many years, I have been making the shift to smaller, lighter cameras that are easy to travel with. I purchased this camera for hiking and hunting. It has a very rugged feel to it. Picture quality is excellent and you have all of the manual controls you could want. My only criticism is that the design of the camera does not permit you to attach a UV filter to protect the lens.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Short Lag Time, Small / Compact
Excerpt: My friend got one for underwater photos and I loved the small size and great photos. I have snapped about 20 pics and really like the controls and the images. Great option for capturing RAW images.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Small / Compact
Excerpt: My wife and I picked up this little camera for traveling and adventures on the weekends. We use professional cameras for our day jobs but we wanted something smaller for traveling. This camera puts out RAW pro quality images packed into a very manageable camera. The camera can be for beginners or professionals. I wish it came with a wrist strap instead of a neck strap but that is very minor problem.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Short Lag Time, Small / Compact
Excerpt: Just received the G16 this week, in super fast time, great service from B&H, and it's a love affair at first use. Currently am only using the auto mode based on an urgent need for photos. I can't wait to fully get familiar with all of the incredible features. The video quality is also exceptional. Has a great sharp, crisp, and large view screen. In any light situationn the color balance is spot on, and in low light there's virtually no picture noise, simply outstanding.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Short Lag Time, Small / Compact
Excerpt: As a proffesional photographer, I bought the G16 as a compact camera that would allow me to have all the manual control I like. The fact that the lens retracts is a big space saver when fitting it into a pocket or the wifes purse. The images are a bit noisy/grainy but that's to be expected from such a small sensor. The lens is fast though (F1.8 when wide), however, it doesn't close down past F8. The image stabilization is great, especially for video.
Conclusion: This is by far the most complete compact camera ever. It is just slightly larger than a compact digital camera. Lets start with its amazing low light ability. ASA 3200 is like ASA 400 on my old camera. 1.8 to 2.8- 5x zoom allows for photos in museums with no flash. And with the ultra low noise in those photos a new world of photography opens with a compact digitl camera.
Excerpt: The G16 is a small camera with features that serious amateurs and pros will like. It supports manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, and raw images. I had a G9 and the G16 is a big improvement. The sensor performs much better in low light with almost no noticeable noise up through ISO 800. The addition os WiFi is great too.
Pros: Camera Raw, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Large Clear LCD, WIFI
