Summary: This is a very good, feature laden, point and shoot camera. The zoom range, and the rear screen are both top notch. The exposure control adjustments are complete, and intuitive. Knobs provide much of the control without having to scroll through digital menus. I bought this camera to augment my walk around street shooting equipment. However, the image quality is not what I have come to expect from my Canon cameras.
Decent upgrade from my old G9 but not as great as I hoped.

Summary: This is a very good point and shoot camera if you don't already own one or if you are stepping up to a point & shoot that has RAW file capabilities and manual controls. The lens is fast (meaning it lets in a lot of light) and the controls are excellent. The screen is also very good, being both sharp and vibrant. The file quality is as good as it gets for a small-chip (1/1.7") sensor. In this context, the camera is a solid 4-stars.
Summary: Quite a lot of research went into this purchase. For a number of years I have wanted a good quality small camera with 720p video capability to replace my 2005 Canon A710, which still takes great photos but no HD video. The Canon G15 has a solid build, took nice video without any focus seeking and was impressive in low light environments. Unfortunately the focusing accuracy shooting stills left much to be desired.
Conclusion: I have dumped mine sold given all at a low price - the new finish to the body of the camera feels fragile and toy like, shame shame shame mine damaged in moments - a marketing ploy to 'create' used looking cameras faster ? maybe but I have reverted to my G10 and it looks like I will carry on with this longer.

Summary: If you have a specific need for a camera with outstanding low light performance then consider the G15. Film speed goes up to ISO 12800 and the lens is really 'fast', with an aperture of f1.8 at wide angle and f2.8 at full telephoto. The trade off is that this limits the optical zoom ratio to 5x. For a general purpose camera I'd consider a zoom of 12x to be the minimum. What made the G15 attractive to me?
