Canon PowerShots G11

The Canon PowerShot G11 is part of the G series line of digital camera that supports advanced features, a variety of shooting modes and compatible EOS accessories. It has a 28 mm (equivalent to 28-140 mm) wide-angle lens helps to get large groups into one shot at events such as a family reunion; a 2.8-inch vari-angle PureColor System LCD for on-camera previewing and reviewing of images from nearly every angle, while incorporating the optical viewfinder found on previous models; access to heavily used functions with two mode dials for adjusting ISO and exposure compensation, and a full range of shooting and recording modes, including RAW + JPEG for creative control when editing images. The camera also supports optional accessories, including Speedlite flashes, an underwater housing and a tele-converter lens. Features

The PowerShot G11 digital camera features Optical Image Stabilization and DIGIC 4 Image Processor, the proprietary technology from Canon that supports signal processing speeds and image quality. The camera also features Smart AUTO technology that can track moving faces and 22 different shooting situations by identifying the surroundings and adjust settings to ensure proper lighting and focus, providing performance in any situation, from group snapshots, to landscapes, to portraits and more. Other features include the ability to shoot 720p High-Definition (HD) video, the PureColor System LCD and a touch screen user interface for navigation through images and menus. The 10.0-Megapixel High Sensitivity System in the G11 provides operation in low-light situations and reduce noise at high ISO speeds, while the High Sensitivity System which is combined with the DIGIC 4 image processor, results in a faster shutter speed to help reduce subject blur and camera shake in recorded images. The High Sensitivity System also allows users to utilize the camera in situations where the flash cannot be used, such as in a wedding or concert hall.

The bottom line: Though it doesn't offer the whizziest new features like an interchangeable lens or a tiny size, the Canon PowerShot G11 still delivers a good shooting experience for photography enthusiasts. Plus it's the only model that includes an optical viewfinder. Read more

Like previous models in the series, the G11 shares much in common with its predecessor, but makes a handful of evolutionary changes to satisfy demands – although revealingly two of the major ‘advances’ here are actually blasts from the past. After many pleas, Canon’s finally brought back an articulated screen, a feature not seen since the G6 back in 2004. It’s also reduced the resolution to the same 10 Megapixels of the G7 2006 model. It seems ironic the major... Read more

When Canon brought out the successor to the G10 and dropped resolution from 14.7 to 10 megapixels, some eyebrows may have been raised. The trend in compact digitals has been to keep bumping up resolution (while not necessarily keeping pace with physical sensor size), but Canon heard some grumbling about the G10's noise performance and, to their credit, responded. In the world of advanced compacts, the G series from Canon has long been regarded as one of the best. While the models aren't always as small as some other advanced compacts on the market, the sturdy design and advanced feature-set mean that they are always a popular model - either as a DSLR companion or as a more advanced model in a standalone capacity. The G11 continues this rich tradition and the improvements over the G10 are well received. The reduction of resolution... Read more

  5. Canon PowerShot G11

    25 May 2010

Canon is a pretty popular name when it comes to digital cameras and they are usually on the frontline when it comes to innovation and development in the field. One of their latest cameras, the Canon PowerShot G11, is a 10-megapixel CCD camera that takes things a little retro. From the design to the lower megapixel image sensor, Canon took a step backwards from its G10 model and made some improvements. The earlier model, the PowerShot G10, featured an image sensor with... I have used the G6 for many years and liked it, and waited for the G series to get the flip out screen back on and get better low light capability. This camera is a winner - took great low light shots in NYC over XMASS including night shots. Only disappointment was the auto flash setting which did not produce good results indoors. However, you can use the scn (scene) setting for indoors and keep the flash on and it works fine in keeping colors natural. Camera seems to... Read more

I have owned many high end SLR cameras and for some years photography was a hobby of mine. I have had two point and shoot digital cameras and still have a small Canon that shoots good shots and will fit into my shirt pocket. The small point and shoot cameras are just not in the same league with the G11. This camera is for the amateur and some professionals and hobbyist. I particularly like having a viewfinder. If you wear glasses you can adjust the viewfinder correction... Read more or see product

The Canon powershot is an excellent point and shoot camera. I bought it for my daughter and she loves it. She finds the LCD screen exceedingly sharp and clear. The features on the camera are easy to use. She figured it out without reading the manuel. One drawback to this camera is viewing movies you created on a PC. You need a computer running Core 2 Duo 1.66 GHz or Higher. Hope you find this information useful. Read more or see product
