Conclusion: Bought this camera in October for snorkeling in Mexico November for its waterproof, GPS, Movie and rugged capability. Sampled pictures prior to trip and liked the simplicity and feature set. However, on first use in water (all doors are sealed with a goof-proof snap-click lock), at a depth of 3 inches, it filled up with water and became unusable. Very disappointed as I love the canon line and buy all my cameras (SLR, DSLR, Powershot) from them.
Conclusion: I've had this camera for a little over a year. It was fun while it lasted. The camera may not seal correctly thus causing the unit to be flooded with water. So much for the underwater capability. All of my cameras are Canons but I would think twice about purchasing this unit.
Summary: After some snorkelling sessions this cam has stopped recording clear sound. Basically when re-palyed on PC in full volume you can hear recorded sound as if it is in the background poor quality ... but at the same time there is a loud clicking noise "tick tick tick tick ..." on the foreground. This is not a coincident. It happened to my first brand new d20, then I took it to the shop for replacement and got new (same model).
Summary: I bought this camera to replace my stolen D10. It is a huge step backwards. The pictures' image quality is noticeably lower than that of my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. The videos are shaky and do not adjust to light conditions. The most disappointing element is that it is advertised as 1080p quality. When setting the video to 1080p I see no better quality than the 480p that was provided on the D10 (which made nicer videos).
Summary: I've bought one and returned it 3 days later after comparing the image quality with the previous D10 and realising it was clearly inferior, which obviously I did not expect from buying a far more recent camera. I compared it under different conditions of light: during afternoon under the sun, late afternoon, early evening, evening sunsetting and when it was about dark. I also compared it under water.
Pros: the HD video mode is good quality compared to competitors though it's got its own issues
Cons: image quality and real bad under low luminosity
