Summary: pro: you can get one cheap & it's possible to make good quality pics with this. cons: its a bit bulky for slipping in pocket or purse, there's a mode switch for either shooting or playback that i found annoying. if you like to review a shot after making it you have to exit shooting mode (lens retracts, the whole 9). you do get a brief review on lcd in shoot mode, but only the last shot.

Summary: I needed a camera that can take great pictures, can do good quality videos and can do close-up macros. This was the only camera in this price range that does this, and I've been quite happy with it overall. The pictures are always good quality, and the videos are pretty nice. They are not DVD quality, but they're not bad and are pretty close to what you get with an old VHS recorder.
Summary: I am giving this 3 stars for now because I have just ordered a replacement and don't want to slam the camera in case I just happened to get a "bad" one. I previously had the Canon A80 and was always pleased with the results so I opted for the A610 when it was time to get a new camera. Out of the box, I set the camera to Auto and started shooting a few indoor shots and noticed that all the shots seemed blurry.
Excerpt: I was really disappointed with this camera. I had only used it on a few occasions and it seemed fairly easy to use then I started having problems taking photographs with the zoom, as the picture would not refocus and then finally the screen blanked out and no images were available. I took the camera for repairs, which was provided under warranty, however they did tell me that it was a regular fault with the camera.
Summary: 16/1/06 I have this camera two weeks taken 200 pictures living with this model, moved from A70 going to SLR next year. I wanted more pixels for beter depth with out over spending. I had thought of Tel photo Lens as I take a lot of sport shots but I will move to 200m with my next purchase,so far I have great results from my Canon and will explor more through assorted settings Don Hanley Newtownards N Ireland
Summary: So, I looked at canon cameras and they were all good. The one thing that stopped me buying this one was that REALLY annoying screen that opens out, when it is open, (and in needs to be open so that you can see the image of what you have taken a picture of) it gets in the way and it is impossible to hold the camera properly. BAD design. I went for the 520 instead.
