Review Summary

Another release from Canon, the Canon Powershot A550 is a simple 7.1 megapixel digital camera with a 2.0-inch LCD display that takes shot very well in different and wide range of situations. It is the 2007 upgraded version of the Canon Powershot A530 of the year 2006. Though the Canon Powershot A550 appears to be very similar, with Canon’s previous A-series, it does have a few different features that might attract or tick people off. Performance-wise, it works and processes faster that its previous versions, being able to take shots every 1.7 seconds but if together with the onboard flash it might take more than that. With its excellent responsive, stylish and a durable body, great selection of manual options and above-average 35mm-to-140mm-equivalent 4x optical zoom lens, the Canon Powershot A550 is a camera worth buying. Its features are not that outstanding or nothing much to talk about, they are just nice. That matters is that the Canon Powershot A550 works fine with its quick performance and decent photos. Its easiest task is taking excellent shots. Two modes are available on the Canon Powershot A550; they are the 30fps VGA (640x480) movie mode and the 60fps QVGA (320x240) high-speed movie mode. Some users don’t like the fact that its images are plagued with artifacts and also not to forget its small LCD. Sometimes users find Canon’s LCD too large and sometimes they find it too small. As so far nobody complained of its selling price which shows that the Canon Powershot A550 is an affordable camera. Unlike other cameras, the Canon Powershot A550 is known not to be that noisy. Its AA batteries and SD memory are both known to be very economic. Some even say that its batteries are one of the longest battery-life of any non-SLR digital camera.
