Summary: I'm not a professional photographer, and can't be bothered to learn the ins and outs of a complicated piece of equipment. This little Canon is perfect for me. It's small enough to tote everywhere, it's basically point and shoot, and it's easy to download the pictures.
Works better than you would expect for a point and shoot

Summary: I enjoy photography. I'm not the type to have cameras that cost $,$$$ because I am a broke college student, not that I don't want one. When my last camera broke while on vacation (yeah, not such a happy thing) I found myself in the market for a new one prior to a school trip to Europe.
Summary: bought this for my 12 year old granddaughter, who is computer savy, she loves it and figured it out withen an hour. great price and gift. Make sure you get a larger memory card for it so it holds more pictures and runs faster.
Summary: My 11-year old daughter saved up her grass-cutting money and purchased this camera. It's perfect for her - easy to use, pretty intuitive, and a good value in terms of the features you get for the price.
Summary: I got this Canon as a back up point and shoot until I get my dream camera, a few hundred dollars more. This one is compact, fits nicely in a pocket or purse, and takes a great picture-especially for the average photographer or one who doesn't need anything more than an automatic, good photo.
Summary: This Canon A490 was purchased as a gift for a not-very-technically-inclined adult relative. He has been using an ancient (maybe 1980s?) Canon 35mm film rangefinder camera, which is about twice as wide, high, and deep as the A490, and probably 10 times heavier, but interestingly has most of the same...
Summary: The camera arrived very well packaged and included a carry strap and batteries. It didn't come with a memory card, although I suppose this is par for the course these days. Also included were USB cables to connect to the computer with, and an audio/video cable that can be used to connect your camera...
Summary: I purchased this camera as a goldbox offer and love it for the most part. The picture quality is good enough for an amateur or for family use. I partnered it up with and (fits like a glove) and for home use or when I am taking pictures of my items for sale.
Summary: It is great camera for the price. Easy to use, captures very nice pictures outdoor. Low light pictures are little bit grainy and you need to hold camera steady. Since it is light weight camera it is difficult to hold it steady.
Summary: Satisfied. Bought as pocket camera which could be easily carried at all times. Need to have fastest memory card to get satisfactory performance. Wish it had more optical zoom like my CANON SX110, but the smaller size and lighter weight make the CANON A490 an acceptable substitute.
