Summary: The camera was fine as far as all the functions working properly and the picture quality is great. The only problem we had was there was some corrosion on the battery contacts and it drains batteries dead even when off. It appears someone left some AA batteries in it to corrode and it caused some damage. But it does work fine as far as the funtions. It just has a very short battery life and you cant leave batteries in it when its turned off.
The camera is great as long as your super careful. One small bump while the lens is open broke it.

Summary: This was a very user friendly camera with pro-like functionality. I was very sad to have it break after a month of use. My son ever-so-lightly bumped me while I was taking a photo and the lens jammed. Into the trash my money went. Be careful with this baby!
WARNING - CAMERA SWITCHES ON EASILY AND WILL RUIN LENS!
1 August 2010
Summary: This camera would be great, except for a fatal flaw! It commonly switches on inside the users' purse, pocket ect, this causes the lens to jam and then the camera does not work properly and makes a horrible grinding noise while turning on. After this event there are spots in the picture, you cannot use the zoom feature properly, and the camera continuously errors out reporting the lens cannot be closed. This has happened to my husband twice!
"Treated it well but lens mechanism doesn't work well."
19 March 2010
Pros: Convenient. Good quality photos.
Cons: Have owned it for less than 12 months. It goes right into a case after I use it. About three months ago, the lens mechanism stopped working correctly. There's a grating sound and something inside the lens mechanism doesn't work properly.
Excerpt: Canon's Powershot A480 digital camera is a decent point-and-shoot. It has the standard amenities and setting of a digital camera and will fit snugly into a purse or pocket. The A480 has is fairly simple to operate if you understand how the menus work on digital cameras. This Canon model seems designed for a younger person just wanting something to take a quick picture here or there, as it comes in 4 different colors and has pretty basic functions.
Summary: Great camera except mine eats batteries. 30-35 photos and it says to replace batteries. The alkaline batteries, (normally 1.5 volts) test at 1.47 volts when it says to replace them. The "dead" batteries worked in a flashlight for 4 hours before I shut the flashlight off. It reccomends NiMH batteries for longer shooting time. NiMH batteries are 1.4 volts. They probably won't even work in this camera. I took the camera to the CANON service center.
