Canon PowerShot A1300: careful!

Kevin P., Amazon
3 November 2012
  • Summary: This is my second Powershot. I like it because it has a viewfinder and takes AA batteries. However, this camera - at least the one that I bought - is very challenged to take good pictures when lighting conditions are not optimal. I would not use this camera for anything serious indoors, like a wedding. Maybe I am spoiled by my previous Powershot and other cameras (Nikon, Panasonic). One positive: the different trick modes are pretty cool and fun to play with.

Cheap camera- cheap quality

J. G. Daniels, Amazon
10 October 2012
  • Summary: I was encouraged by the good reviews of this camera and the fact that it used AA batteries instead of rechargeable and had an optical viewfinder. Also, I have had two previous Canon cameras and have been very pleased. This camera is very cheaply made, is slow to actually snap a picture and indoor picture quality is poor. I bought it as a retirement gift for my Mother this summer and I will be replacing it at Christmas with a better camera.

Poorer photo resolution to Canon Powershot A1000IS

Amy Ong "Amy Ong", Amazon
6 October 2012
  • Summary: Before buying this Canon Powershot A1300 which is a 16MP digital camera, I have owned and used Canon predecessor Powershot A1000IS 10MP digital camera for a few years. This camera is touted as 16MP. However, when taking the same photo (with and without optical zoom) using the A1000IS, surprisingly the A1300 photo has much poorer resolution, as compared to A1000IS. A1300 is also much lighter, which may be a good thing if quality is not being compromised.

  • Excerpt: The Canon Powershot A1300 is a budget cam selling for cheap prices. However even for that money you can get better cameras. It feels pretty cheap with it´s plastic body, considering that you can get an Ixus made of metal with a ways more solid feeling is a bit questionable. The 16MP are too much for this kind of sensor. Dynamic Range is pretty limited and the exposure doesn´t work that proper.

Pocketsize, but not so sharp

Howard Greybeard, Amazon
21 August 2012
  • Summary: Pros include price and size. Under a hundred bucks seems to be a pretty good price. The size is truly convenient. This one fits easily into a shirt pocket. While it includes a potentially useful viewfinder which is unfortunately not parallax corrected so what you see is not quite what you get. The saddest feature is a 16 mp sensor, which implies pretty good resolution, but since the lens is not very sharp that level of resolution is meaningless.

poor quality pictures

Irish Girl, Amazon
9 July 2012
  • Summary: I was looking for a smaller camera that I could throw in my purse and use to take pictures at events. I was excited to see this camera had a optical viewfinder, since I hate using the LCD screen. For me, the big test in the quality of a camera is seeing how it takes pictures of people. This newer camera with more megapixels took noticeably poorer pictures then my old Sony Cybershot. T took the same pic of the same person from the same angel with both cameras to compare.

Compact, simple, but low light performance is atrocious

That Guy from Seattle, Amazon
29 June 2012
  • Summary: I bought this camera because I wanted a small point-and-shoot that I could throw into my pocket and whip out for a quick shot here and there. Pros: Low price, very compact and lightweight, simple and intuitive controls, takes AA batteries, can record video. Cons: Image quality is pretty bad in general and low light shots tend to be noisy to the point of absurdity, the auto focus system can be fickle at times. It's small, intuitive to use, and has a good price, but...
