Summary: OK, I took a star away only because there are so many more better cameras out there these days at really good prices...but I LOVE THIS ONE because it has a viewfinder! When I got it a few years ago, it was the only remaining one (of this size) with a viewfinder I could find. All other manufacturers fell in love with great big LCDs and Canon went the same way. I didn't want an SLR-sized camera - I wanted one I could put in a very little case or directly in my pocket.
Summary: I saw this camera was rated #1 for point and shoot image quality on some camera review sites. It also has quite a lot of flexibility in choosing how you want your photos shot. This is a great camera that I can carry when it's not convenient to have my big DSLR and lenses with me. I've dropped it several times and although it's a bit scratched up now, it still takes great photos and battey life is excellent!
"Inferior to earlier models even with image stabilizer"
20 April 2013
Pros: good resolution, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life (dies after a few shots), poor software (no sofisticated remote control), too "automatic" for my taste (can't manually change all the parameters (aurora night shots for example are impossible)
Summary: Unfortunately after about 2 years I started having sensor issues with all the pictures turning purple and streaky. But until that point I loved this camera. Compact, tons of features, great options for different scene settings.
Summary: Bought this camera 3 years ago, and had very high expectations. They weren't realized. I have been extremely disappointed. PROS: Structural integrity, rugged case. No mechanical issues. The camera produces decent adequate light pictures using auto mode, as long as the subject's within about 40-50'. The fact that it takes AA batteries was a plus, although to get any decent life you have to use expensive lithium batteries.
Summary: I purchased this camera as an extra. Whenever my Husband and I go to the zoo or sightseeing I always have him take photos just in case my DSLR doesn't capture the closeups the way I like. Well Hubby has gotten many gorgeous shots that I have missed. This little camera is amazing and I highly recommend it. Since it only has a 4x zoom it is not reliable for zoom shots but hey that's what the DSLR is for. You will love this little easy to carry camera.
My Canon - Power Shot A1100 IS Digital Camera is AWESOME!
9 September 2012
Excerpt: When my old camera broke I decided to buy a more affordable camera. I looked at the Canon-Powershot A1100 IS and it looked great and had all the features that my more expensive camera had. I knew the Canon name and how reputable it was so I bought it. Boy was I glad I did because this camera has never taken a bad picture. It has great zoom and I love the quality of the video also. It has been dropped many times and still works perfectly.
Excerpt: This camera is an excellent value. I am pleased with the quality of my photos and it is a very user friendly camera. The only thing I don't love is that the battery/memory card cover is a little tricky to close.
