Auto settings horrible!

Craig Smith, Amazon
2 December 2010
  • Summary: I loved my previous version of this camera, but the auto settings are horrible. About 50% of the photos are either out of focus or grainy like a 2 MP camera.

slightly disappointed

L. Doong "ugarugger", Amazon
10 February 2010
  • Summary: I've owned a few Canon powershot cameras over the years, and in general I have been very happy with them (obviously if I keep buying them). But this particular model has a few flaws that have really disappointed me since I purchased the camera in Oct. 2009. 1. the auto focus hasn't been working properly - especially in indoor situations. Many times when trying to take photos of friends, I've noticed that the auto focus changes to the macro setting.

Canon SD1200 IS

vijai, Rate it all!
5 February 2010
  • Summary: I bought this camera as an upgrade my old Canon SD 500, with priced a lot less than the old one (~$160). The back is made up of plastic and feels a lot weaker than the Old SD500. With a quick glance you can also a lot of features has been stripped out. The pictures doenst looks great and the night time pictures are really bad.

  • Summary: **Type in search Canon SD1200 Bundle for same price. It won't show if you don't search for it.** I purchased this camera for it's GREAT bundle price which comes with a 4gb SD card and the IS feature $149.00. Pictures are still blurry... very disappointed about the IS. Overall, It is a very easy digital camera to use and is attractive. It does take great clear pictures in OUTSIDE LIGHT. Pictures are better outside of course. Not very good indoors.

Ulrik, DP Review

  • Excerpt: I've bought this camera to replace my Ixus 40 which I always carry; I also have a 40D for the more serious work. My blind faith in the Canon brand is really being tested. I've always propagated how good Canon sensors were in dark circumstances, but this camera clearly is not. Image quality is poor, especially the amount of noise in lower light environments. Problems: There is a particular problem with focus in the AUTO setting, also with lower light environment.

Didn't give me the big WOW factor I wanted or expected.

sugarprincess, epinions.com
24 November 2009
  • Summary: For a first camera or major upgrade, this is a good camera, but it had no WOW factor for the tiny upgrade I was making.
  • Pros: Ability to use HDSC cards, play button, macro photos, available in colors
  • Cons: Auto function didn't work very well, non-adjustable wrist strap, no wow factor

  • Excerpt: While vacationing in the Dominican Republic, my wife went swimming with her SD870. Nevertheless, the camera was destroyed by the salt water. So, the next day in the US Virgin Islands, I had to buy her a new camera. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so thought I would get this one. It's pink, and heck simple to use. BUT, not as simple as the SD870. The SD870 with 8MP and a 3" LCD, is a far superior camera to the SD1200 with 10MP and 2.5" LCD.
