Summary: I have been attempting to replace an older Canon S50 with a more compact camera for a couple of years. For me the key criteria is the quality of indoor photos since most cameras (and smart-phones) take excellent outdoor photos. I have purchased and returned several cameras, that while more compact than my old S50, simply could not take indoor photos that were remotely comparable to the S50.
Summary: I purchased this camera along with a few others to evaluate as a replacement camera for work. Overall it was a pleasant camera to use. Pictures were good, the camera handled well and construction was good. Summary: I'm not big on cameras and my photography knowledge/skills border on zero, but my work often necessitates the taking of pictures. I received the Canon PowerShot Elph 100 as a gift a couple of years ago and found it was the best camera for someone like me. I rarely moved the dial from the "Auto" setting and found myself pleasantly surprised with the quality of the pictures I was taking.
Summary: I ordered this camera for a 9 month trip to Asia. So far I am only one week in but the camera has been everything I wanted both pre-departure and abroad. The size is small enough that I can throw it into my pocket on my way out of the door which is convenient since last time my host took me on a 'walk' we ended up being gone for hours and visiting a bunch of interesting sites. The build is also substantial enough that I don't have to worry about it falling apart.
Summary: I hardly ever need to turn on the flash. I take a lot of pictures at night and they turn out fabulous. The hd movies take up a lot of space on the memory card. That's the only drawback I can think of at the moment. If you're looking for a easy point and shoot camera this works perfectly. There are a bunch of settings to play around with too for some fun shots.
