The Canon EOS 7D is one of the best midrange D-SLRs money can buy. But if you don't need comprehensive video recording features or ultra-high-resolution images, there are a handful of competing D-SLRs that produce comparable image quality for half the price. Read more
We have no reservations about giving the Canon EOS 7D an Editor’s Choice designation – it’s a great DSLR that just so happens to record high-definition videos. The big question, though: Is the camera worth its steep asking price? Happily, the answer is yes, since it’s an investment that will pay you back for years to come in terms of great photos. Moreover, for those who enjoy a challenge, it will take some time to learn all of the device’s capabilities. Read more
With the introduction of the 7D, Canon has fit a camera neatly into both the resolution and cost gaps that had formerly existed in their DSLR lineup. Now there's a smooth progression of resolution from 10 megapixels to 21 at roughly 2 or 3 megapixel increments, and a $1700 camera to fill the gap between the $1100 50D and $2700 5DII. Read more
The EOS 7D also represents a departure for Canon which at this level always slotted its models in-between those from Nikon. So in the past you’d have the EOS 50D fitting roughly between Nikon’s D90 and D300s for example. Canon also seemed happy to let Nikon have the very high-end cropped frame market to itself, and while models like the EOS 50D overtook Nikon on resolution, the D300 and D300s maintained a dignified lead in viewfinder, AF and drive performance. THis camera replaced my Canon T2i. It has much more professional feeling from any Rebale line, more functions, better shutter speed, light meter is much accurate with more options. The option of changing ISO in video mode makes a big diference when you can actualy control the light on the camera and not in post production. Read more or see product
Quick question. Just received my camera from Newegg. Haven't had time to use it yet since I'm in the office and my lenses are at home. When I took the camera out of the box it feels solid. But when I shake it, it sounds like there is something lose in there. Is that normal? And no, it is not the mirror. Sounds smaller. Like a small screw or small piece of plastic or something. Having used a 30D for several years, it is time to upgrade to a newer model. 30D is the a good machine except it gets dusty on the sensor too easily. 7D should not have that problem. Read more

The unit features EOS advancements including a 19-point Autofocus system, a Canon iFCL Metering System (Intelligent Focus, Color, Luminance) and an Intelligent Viewfinder. An 18-megapixel Canon CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors powers the EOS 7D’s 14-bit A/D data conversion and its ability to freeze fast motion in high-resolution with eight fps continuous shooting up to 126 Large JPEGS using a UDMA CF card, positioning this camera for the studio as well as the sideline. The EOS 7D supports from 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800) ISO settings that allows users to capture low-light images with or without a flash. It also features Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution with selectable frame rates of 24p, 25p or 30p. Native 24p recording.
The Canon EOS 7D features a multi-axis cross-type 19-point AF grid, where the focusing points are evenly spread out across the image plane and clearly displayed through Canon’s Intelligent Viewfinder. All 19 points are f/5.6-sensitive for both horizontal and vertical cross-type focusing, while the center AF point adds high-precision diagonal cross-type sensitivity for f/2.8 and larger aperture lenses. The Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR camera also allows numerous AF area selection modes which includes: Spot AF mode which reduces the size of a single AF point to focus on small subjects like an animal in a cage; AF Point Expansion mode which uses a cluster of AF points adjacent to the selected AF point to automatically assist focusing on moving subjects, such as an athlete on the run and Zone AF which divides the 19 AF points into five selectable focusing zones and makes it easier to achieve focus with subjects that are difficult to track with Single Point AF or AF point expansion, such as birds in flight. The unit also features built-in Dual Axis Electronic Level which is an artificial horizon over the image on the rear LCD screen in Live View or in the viewfinder to help identify when the camera is in a fixed level shooting position and ready to take the shot; built-in wireless Integrated Speedlite Transmitter for control of multiple off-camera EOS Speedlites without the need for an external transmitter; Intelligent Macro Tracking function which helps reduce blur during macro shooting; Wireless Connectivity via WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter (WFT) that allows photographers to fire up to 10 cameras simultaneously from across the room, transfer and display images on DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible televisions and photo frames and geotagging via Bluetooth (with compatible GPS devices to append coordinate data to the images).
