Great camera that is still going strong. Full sensor format is great for wide angle lenses. Relatively small image size but with reasonable number of pixels. The only negatives I can think of are lack of auto ISO and pretty low max ISO by today's standards. Good value for money on the second hand market.

    • full sensor, low pixel density, image quality, file size
    • no auto iso

The Canon EOS 5D, also known as “the big brother to the Canon EOS 20D” is considered to be a lower-priced-full-frame digital SLR camera. With its top-notch and high resolution images, the Canon EOS 5D quickly became a favorite among photographers. Notable differences between the Canon EOS 5D and other cameras is that it has a twice-as-large sensor size and a built-in flash. As it is the first digital SLR to offer these features. Its textured case and a slew of control with the lighter weight and grooved grip, the Canon EOS 5D is a comfortable camera specially for those who have problems holding heavier SLR cameras. Other features of the Canon EOS 5D are a 35mm-size sensor that obviates focal-length conversions, a big 2.5-inch LCD and an unmatched low-noise images at ISO 1,600 and 3,200. It is able to produce silky smooth images till the ISO400 and at the same time, its noise level are very well controlled and balanced. This is due to the fact that a full frame sensor is available in the Canon EOS 5D. Some users don’t like the fact that the Canon EOS 5D has an overall build quality and performance typical of much cheaper cameras. Some would complain that it has no constant ISO display while others think that the images show occasional red fringing around highlight transitions. Its automatic white balance is known to be occasionally inconsistent. Mainly lacking in it is a built-in flash. But still, it’s known to be the cheapest SLR camera around. It is still a great camera with very few minor defaults. Despite all that, a certain user quoted that if you want to increase image quality and still want an affordable solution to the D series cameras, this is the camera of choice. ***It does not have built in flash
