Canon - EOS 500D, digital rebel is too expensive and not so hot
9 September 2012
Excerpt: I believe this camera is too expensive for what you actually get. I have used the Canon Rebel and it does a much better job at quality and color than this camera. Actually disappointed that I purchaed it.
Summary: I likED this camera other than it keeps falling apart. We had the camera 3 days past a year (which we had a year warranty) and the lens quits working. The auto focus wouldn't work and wouldn't allow me to take photos. We sent the lens into Canon's repair center to have them repair the problem, which we had to pay full price for because our year warranty went out. Then, 3 months later our flash wouldn't pop up or work.
Summary: I purchased this item through Amazon online in November, 2010.First, an Excellent Digital Camera for me[ a first time Digital camera user],but more than Ineeded in the bundle. The camera bag is nice lookind, but the strap latches tore/broke before the end of the first week of use. An extra rechargeable battery was included which would NOT fit this model camera! Excellent tripod! Next time I'll look closer at the items included in the "kit" before I make my purchase.
Pros: Many Manual Features, HD modes, Shoots Video, Vivid colors.
Cons: Focus is terrible, and even in manual never matches up! I have problems on a lot of my pictures the little screen looks perfect even when zoomed in, but then in editing, some are totally out of focus! Manual & Auto Focus!
Keep getting error 50 message - the shutter is down

Summary: I can't take pictures when this message comes out, I have tried the normal troubleshooting steps but none works. A few 50D customers have this complaint, I need to contact their customer service, probably I will have to send it back to Canon, hope it won't take long.
Summary: When I first received my t1i it wasnt packaged very well, there was a lot of room in the box and on the top of the box the one and only layer of tape was broken. Now I'm not entirely sure if it was because of the poor packaging or because of faulty hardware but the camera didnt work properly. the easiest way to explain the fault was it looked like a dead pixel on an iphone or lcd monitor except for it was redish/orange square. it was on every video I captured.
Excellent camera, but needed service twice within 2 months of ownership

Summary: Camera takes stunning quality photos. It shares the same processor with more expensive models. Good video quality. Unfortunately mine needed to be sent back to Canon within a few weeks of ownership because it would not read a full battery charge. Customer service was responsive and even answered questions during the weekend. Kudos to Canon in that regard. Updated at 2 months of ownership: Camera again returned for repair.
Pros: Ok... I can take the time to list many good features about this camera. It does have them. But the bottom line is that the bad news in the next section MUST convince you to not make the same mistake I made.
Cons: #1 con.... it does not focus well. At least one third of the pictures are out of focus.
Actually surprised.... turnout was favorable, please read.

Summary: I've emailed the seller about this problem... just awaiting results, but here's the problem so far: Everything came SUPER quick. The only problem is with the 75-300mm lens. It's very hard to move from 75mm to 300mm---twist gets stuck. It also clicks a bit when its on (sounds like something is wrong with how the lenses were put into this telephoto). The photos it takes are ALWAYS blurry.
