Summary: Upgraded to an EOS 40D from a 10 D as I cracked the viewer of my old work camera...Didn't want to spend a fortune so purchased a used one on E-Bay. Very similar to my 10 D but a little more sensitive and crotchety. Doesn't always have instant shutter and seems to take longer to focus in low light situations. Disappointed Canon changed the battery extender pack set up so that my old one won't work on this model.
Summary: One of the best cameras ever made by CANON, the relation between the sensor size and number of megapixels is the secret for the excellent image quality of this gem. the ergonomics are great, the solid construction is a plus, I'm using my vintage SMC Pentax lenses with an adapter and the image quality is excellent ,high resolution with tons of details, well balance colors, my favorite lens is the 50mm 1.7 f and the 35-75 mm f3.5-4.5 .At the price of $250 there is no better...
Summary: I have had this camera for almost 4 years and I think that it takes fantastic photos. I just completed a 365 project using it, and even after daily use for a year, I have had no issues so far. It is easy to use and has a lot of great features. I would recommend the body only as I do not like the kit lens. I don't think that it takes very sharp images and have acutually just put it away at this point in favor of my 17-40mm or my f/1.8 50mm.
Excerpt: The Canon 40D was my first canon camera (I had the Nikon D40 before it). I entered into the realm of canon because I liked their selection of glass more. I chose the canon 40D over the canon xsi or the canon t2i because I did not want a camera that felt like a toy. I held the canon xsi and it was too small for me. It really is geared towards people who are hopping on the photography trend and just want to look cute and cool.
The Canon EOS 40D is versatile with a full range of lenses.

Excerpt: The Canon 4D is a camera that captures 8 million pixels, allowing for expansion in the reproductive process that is compatible with new generation printers. It is easy to operate, conveniently fits into a relatively small carrying bag that permits ease of a full range of uses from close focused pictures to more panoramic scenes.
Excerpt: The Canon 40D has been a great camera for me to start diving into photography a bit more! I love the options it has, and it has been relatively easy to learn the ins and outs of the camera! I have had the camera for about a year now and just recently have started shooting in manual mode when the setting is just right! I love shooting in P and AV modes!
Excerpt: Great camera and easy to use. I would only suggest this camera to someone who is familiar with general photography, such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how they relate to eachother, as well as different types of white balance and lenses. This camera is awseome, but if you are just going to keep it on "auto-pilot" you are wasting your money.
Excerpt: One of the best cameras to start as a professional photographer. Its easy to use and have a excellent image quality. has a easy interface and a lot of futures. The greatest of all, goog price to start a new hobby or job.
Excerpt: I just upgraded cameras and purchased a 40D. The picture quality is excellent and the features are great. I use this camera as a professional and enjoy using it to photography portraits. The pictures turn out great. I've used it to make prints as large as 20x24 and they were great. The camera is simple to use and with an added battery pack, the battery hasn't given out before I have!
Excerpt: I've had this camera for about 2 years now, and it still works wonderfully. This is a great starter camera, and at a same time a great camera for those wanting to take a leap into the professional world. In the years that I've had this camera, I've encountered no problems or errors. The camera has it's basic settings for those starting out: automatic, night scene, portrait, action, etc. Very similar to the settings you see on your basic point-and-shoots.
