The new Canon EOS40D redefines photography as real art. Also known as the next generation of digital SLR photography, this highly-anticipated Canon EOS40D features proofs of advance technology in the form of its new features like Live View shooting, advanced DIGIC III image processor, an advance autofocus sensor, a 3" LCD and a 6.5 fps continuous shooting capability. According to the CNET review, Canon added dust- and weatherproofing on the CF slot, the buttons, and all connection points, and it implemented the same integrated sensor-cleaning system that’s in the Mark III series. The latter vibrates the sensor to dislodge dust during start-up and shut-down (pressing the shutter cancels cleaning during start-up), and if that doesn’t work, a Dust Delete Data option enables the camera to analyze and remember where it senses dust and algorithmically remove it from photos. There are different modes available which makes it more like a camera for pros. The Canon EOS40D is easy to learn how it functions and its modes are both automatic and manual. And also with that feature, it allows to the photographers an amazing capability to capture photographs in various conditions. It’s not considered a boring camera but a challenging one. The Canon EOS40D would come of use to people who love to be involved in digital photography. It’s also great in providing a wide range of control. With its advanced auto-focus system makes it easier in capturing moving objects a lot easier. It also features a full-time ISO in the viewfinder. Apart from its special features, it’s also known to be much more weather durable than its previous version. While some might find there’s nothing new in this camera, others seem to just ‘click’ with it. The devoted Canon fans will love this camera while others risk nothing in trying.

This DSLR from Canon performs so well that finding something to criticize about it was difficult. Although it is missing some features compared to other cameras in its class, nearly everything that the Canon EOS 40D does, it does very well. Image quality and speed are great. What is not perfect is its white-balance system which occasionally leaves a color cast, particularly under artificial lighting. Ergonomics could be better, although anyone who is used to a Canon... If you read the gearhead camera forums, you might think the Canon 40D is nothing special. Only an incremental change over the 30D, say the loudest voices. Perhaps it's because, from the front at least, the new model looks very similar to the old, which makes it easy to gloss over the changes under the skin. Forget what you read in the gearhead forums. The Canon 40D is a honey. Read more

Seven years since the EOS D30, the sixth incarnation of that camera displays all of the advantages of a progressive evolution in both features and quality. With each step up the evolutionary ladder to the EOS 40D Canon has demonstrated improvements in image quality, performance, usability and features. They also demonstrated that as well as meeting the 'requirements of the market' they also listened to owners and reviewers by implementing the most commonly requested... Read more

Canon's EOS 30D was the DSLR middleweight contender to beat for most of 2007, thanks to its tough body, great image quality, fast autofocus, and semi-pro controls. So it's no surprise that the new 10.1MP EOS 40D ($1,300, street, body only; $1,500, street, with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens) holds fast to the 30D's overall body design and exposure controls. In fact, from the front it's hard to tell them apart. Read more

I've used a 6.1 megapixel Canon Digital Rebel for four years and there was no real learning curve required to use the basic features of the 40D. However, the overall quality of the 40D compared to the Digital Rebel is impressive as is the number of controllable settings and features. The resolution is excellent. The image stabilized 28-135mm EF lens is a must. Whether you are a casual photographer who wants quality results from automatic camera settings or you are an... Read more

For a professional photographer this camera is incredible. It is fast, smaller than the full frame Canons, and can handle its own in durability. I am not really a pro though. I shoot in full manual almost exclusively, and for that, my xti, is annoying. The reason is, it demands you hold down a button while turning a wheel to adjust the aperture. The 40d is an an incredible upgrade getting around this with a second dial on the back of the camera. Though it is a bit bigger... Read more

Hello, I bought last month a kit canon 40D with an objective 17 85 IS. From the beginning, it posted error 99 problems of battery. I could take photos, but I had to every time remove and put back  the battery. I thus sent back  the camera and the site from which I bought it paid off it to me. I like very much this device when it works. Honestly, be that you met this kind of error with Nikon D200 or D300. Thank you for your answer, Christelle Read more

There are a significant number of technical reviews on this camera so I'll be brief. This is an excellent camera. Only upgrade that it lacks & I wish it had is in camera lens correction. The camera is very fast. It easily takes 6+ frames a second. Auto focus is very fast also, even in less than perfect light. You'll be able to use for virtually all sporting events. But it also has good depth & coloration for landscapes, portraits, etc. It does only have a 12 bit color... Read more or see product
