Review Summary
The new Canon EOS40D redefines photography as real art. Also known as the next generation of digital SLR photography, this highly-anticipated Canon EOS40D features proofs of advance technology in the form of its new features like Live View shooting, advanced DIGIC III image processor, an advance autofocus sensor, a 3" LCD and a 6.5 fps continuous shooting capability. According to the CNET review, Canon added dust- and weatherproofing on the CF slot, the buttons, and all connection points, and it implemented the same integrated sensor-cleaning system that’s in the Mark III series. The latter vibrates the sensor to dislodge dust during start-up and shut-down (pressing the shutter cancels cleaning during start-up), and if that doesn’t work, a Dust Delete Data option enables the camera to analyze and remember where it senses dust and algorithmically remove it from photos. There are different modes available which makes it more like a camera for pros. The Canon EOS40D is easy to learn how it functions and its modes are both automatic and manual. And also with that feature, it allows to the photographers an amazing capability to capture photographs in various conditions. It’s not considered a boring camera but a challenging one. The Canon EOS40D would come of use to people who love to be involved in digital photography. It’s also great in providing a wide range of control. With its advanced auto-focus system makes it easier in capturing moving objects a lot easier. It also features a full-time ISO in the viewfinder. Apart from its special features, it’s also known to be much more weather durable than its previous version. While some might find there’s nothing new in this camera, others seem to just ‘click’ with it. The devoted Canon fans will love this camera while others risk nothing in trying.
Welcome to the next generation of digital SLR photography-the Canon EOS 40D. The EOS 40D combines Canon’s tremendous know-how in both the digital and photographic worlds, creating a camera that not…

For this money, it's something of a bargain, costing only a few hundred quid more than the entry level 400D. It's always going to come down to budget and preference, but comparing the two we'd stump up the extra cash and get the 40D. It's much more powerful and flexible, while being almost as easy to use, and is sure to have a big effect on the quality of your photographs. And isn't that what buying a new camera is all about? There's a lot to like about Canon's successor to the popular EOS 30D digital single-lens reflex camera. Experienced photographers will enjoy the EOS 40D's intuitive design and easy-to-use software interface, not to mention the great image quality. It's not perfect, but it's a DSLR to seriously consider. Read more

I've used a , from entry-level models up to pro models. Once you have a taste of the capabilities of a professional camera, you can't easily go back to a digital SLR that's less full-featured; likewise, if you want to step up from an entry-level digital SLR, you have to get something with extra oomph. The Canon EOS 40D ($1300 body only, or $1500 with a 28mm to 135mm lens, as of November 2, 2007) delivers outstanding image quality at a price that's in reach for photo e... Read more

Canon EOS 40D; Redefining The Common Wisdom About D-SLR Photography
Reviewer: Shutterbug26 November 2007Common wisdom is what the collective mind creates to make sense of the world. It is a pool of “givens” based on experience and assumptions about how things work. While many aspects of the new Canon EOS 40D are evolutionary rather than a startling breakthrough, in other ways it creates a “new normal” that goes against some common wisdom we might share about digital imaging. We’ll look at some of those in this review. Read more

If you read the gearhead camera forums, you might think the Canon 40D is nothing special. Only an incremental change over the 30D, say the loudest voices. Perhaps it's because, from the front at least, the new model looks very similar to the old, which makes it easy to gloss over the changes under the skin. Forget what you read in the gearhead forums. The Canon 40D is a honey. Read more

After several bad expreiences with canon 350d, i finaly decided give canon 40d a try. i bought one from a local store and brought it to a european trip. my wife brought her own camera too, a small samsung NV3. The only reason she carrys her camera is she feels her NV3 is cute. When we came back from the trip, we found out that her pictures are much better than mine! The picture taken from this canon are very noisy. I speak to the store and I was told I need a better l... Read more

1. The “quietness” of the shutter does not last. Initially it is a nice soft “cluff” noise, BUT after putting a few thousand frames through this body, the foam damper which the shutter comes up against during an exposure, gets pressed enough times for its “springyness” to get lost. The result is less damping of the shutter noise, which turns into a loud “clack” a la 20D. 2. I have always loved the color and light handling of the 10 and 20D cameras - I think its even b... I own the Canon 40D and I can only conclude that it leaps and bounds over the EOS 30D. It is similar to the XTi but still better. More weather durable and more pro-type handling. Also many different modes are available, and the shutter speed is amazing! I like shooting black & white and sepia and it is great with the Canon EOS 40D. Read more

Totally Fantastic
Reviewer: Digitalcamera HQ02 December 2007- Overall 10

wow. It is far better than my Canon 20d. It's even better than the 5d. The light sensitivity is amazing. Really brilliant photos. It is heavy. I certainly don't feel that it is cheaply made. It cleans itself every time you turn it off. Love that! The controls offer more possibilities than the 20d. Shutter feels absolutely fantastic. Read more
