This time Canon lives up to its standard with its Digital Rebel XTi. This Canon EOS 400D is easy enough for a beginner to use and at the same time, its good enough to be used by professional photographers. The Canon EOS 400D like its predecessor sports a bigger screen and Picture Styles, but still keeps the same sensor as its predecessor. There are also a higher resolution sensor and a new active dust removal system. A certain reviewer was genuinely happy that he could take pictures with this camera without having to make his young kids stay still to strike a pose. The same is expressed by another user. Coming back to this Canon, the Canon EOS 400D is a bit compact and lightweight by weighting approximately 4 ounces more than its 17.1-ounce predecessor, unusually fast and responsive, much more intelligently designed with shooting-friendly layout. Known to be well-balanced, thanks to its small, exceptionally light kit lens that are attached to the larger and heavier 16mm-to-35mm (25.6mm-to-56mm equivalent) lens. The huge main LCD can be used as a read-in of the methods of monitoring the settings. Features that are displayed there on the LCD cannot be seen in the viewfinder. Features like the ISO speed, white balance, battery level, and other useful settings. According to CNET, most amateurs will find all the essentials: a handful of manual, semimanual, and automatic exposure modes; user-selectable nine-point autofocus, and AI Servo autofocus for moving subjects; and simultaneous raw-plus-JPEG capture. The only known lacking feature in this camera is the spot meter as it supplies only evaluative, center-weighted average, and partial center-weighted metering. Aside from that, it is a great camera to be used.
See less. Presently, this is the least expensive 10 megapixels DSLR on the market. Canon had to make some compromises for this, but still produced a superb contender Read more
Canon changed the entire digital camera market when they revealed the EOS 300D. Launched in a huge way, they clearly expected it to be a big success. The ripples of that day forced prices lower and removed an entire category of camera (the 'prosumer' all-in-one compact). Canon put digital SLRs into the hands of people who would otherwise never had considered one. For better or worse the sub-$1000 digital SLR had arrived. Of course the EOS 300D was a huge commercial... Read more
So is the 400D worth paying extra for? Well certainly not if you compare resolution alone – there's really not a significant enough difference between the 8-megapixel 350D and the 10-megapixels of the 400D to make it worth the money. However, where the 400D excels over the 350D is in the much improved controls, autofocus, dust reduction system and above all, the larger 2.5in display – these if anything are worth the price of entry. So if you are the owner of a 350D... Read more
Although the design is slightly clunky, the Digital Rebel XTi is the best in its price class in terms of image quality. Read more
The bottom line: The Canon EOS Rebel XTi remains a very good first dSLR, but ultimately a disappointing followup to the XT, which cedes its lead to the Nikon D80. Read more
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is an exceptionally small and lightweight camera designed for amateur digital SLR photographers, but it delivers the responsiveness and image quality you'd expect from a semipro model. Read more
I am sure my camera will be a wonderful investement when I get it fixed. I bought the camera at the beginning of June as a gift to myself for my birthday. I didn't open the box until my husband came home from deployment and was going to help me use it. I have a problem with the CF chip and formatting the camera. It is now in transit for Canon to repair. I await with enthusiasm it's return as my dad has always been a canon fan and has taken some extraordinary shots. Read more

Great camera that can go from automatic mode for those that don't want to fiddle with settings to semi-pro that will change aperture to shutter speed. Either way, the picture comes out great. Read more
There are over 600 reviews on this camera, and over 90% of them are 4-5 stars. So, why would I add my 2 cents? Because this model is simply one of the best Canon has ever made. I'll give you three simple reasons why: 1. Value--for the price, this camera is awesome. You can take professional quality photos that look like they were shot with a $4,000 camera. Purchasing this camera leaves room in your wallet for great accessories (especially lenses), books, and maybe even... Read more or see product
