1DX is good, but buggy

Wedding Photog, Adorama
16 October 2012
  • Excerpt: I use the 1DX for weddings as a replacement for my 5DII. Pros: The AF is responsive and fast in good light, and AI Servo tracks relentlessly. I can even use the 85/1.2 lens to track slow moving people, like the bride coming down the aisle. 12 fps is blazing fast. Images up to 12,800 ISO are usable with post processing noise cleanup, and the noise is like film grain. Two CF card slots are nice. The battery lasts an entire wedding over 1200 shots.
  • Pros: 12 fps very fast, Bright LCD, Excellent Image Quality, fast and responsive af in good light, Good battery life, longer battery life than 5dii, Nice features/settings, Quick start-up time, Superior build quality, usable images up to iso 12800
  • Cons: af freezes, af points are grayed out, ai servo slow in low light, Heavy, off-center af points less sensitive in low light, playback button freezes

Digit Logic, DP Review
16 February 2012
  • Excerpt: I had the opportunity to handle the EOS 1DX in a camera show to test the iso ranges. I'm fashion photographer and in normal conditions I have to work on very low light stages. I guess Canon decided to put a 18mp FF sensor in this camera because of the fact that the more MP you have, the more noise you would get. I have the 1DMrkIV for the massive work and because of the unmatched ISO's that I can get in low light conditions.

Impressive, but unreliable

Anonymous, Canon
5 August 2014
  • Conclusion: The good: it's clear it's the best camera Canon has when it comes to image quality, low light, autofocus...you name it. It's a technological marvel. The bad: Every six months this camera seems to develop a fault that requires a return for repairs. Between the autofocus, mirror, sensor, camera body and shutter mechanism (which failed at half the rated life), there's no shortage of components which will suddenly break.
  • Cons: Poor build quality, Unreliable

Struggles to achieve Canon 1Ds Mk2 IQ

W1Tog, WEX
4 December 2013
  • Summary: Try (suggest rental for a good few day' workouts) before you buy. Compare others - esp at price. Disappoimted with IQ compared with my eight year old 1Ds Mk 2.Love the speed and wide range of focus options. Love the strength and well-used to the weight.
  • Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Fast Shutter Speed, Focussing, Speed, Strength Solidity, Strong Construction, Vertical Integral Grip
  • Cons: Iq Reviews Not Delivered, More Grain Than Expected, Poor In Low Light

1DX - great in good light... which is a shame...

Sycotek, Canon
21 August 2012
  • Conclusion: Absolutely outstanding camera in terms of IQ, AF and overall speed - it's weakness however is it's inability to focus in low-light using Ai Servo. Be warned: if you are having trouble locking onto subjects in low light (iso 12K f4 1/50th territory) use any fps between 1 and 10 and You will be fine, 11-12 doesn't lock as easily or at all. It's a strange bug which is replicated on my second 1DX body.
  • Pros: Superior build quality
  • Cons: Unreliable
