This camera weighs just15.9 oz./ 450g (body only) ,measures 4.96 x 3.8 x 2.4 in and it is believed to be lightest yet most compact dSLR from Canon to date. The models bright 2.5" LCD screen allows users to instantly review images for composition, sharpness and focus. The manual focus can be used at 5x or 10x magnification to bring your subject up close.

The Canon EOS 1000D’s body comes in two colors Black and Silver. Digital Photo Professional (DPP) is a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control and this is included in the Rebel XS model. The camera also comes with EOS Utility, Image/Zoom Browser and Photostitch. The Rebel XS also provides the users with four Focusing Modes: One-Shot AF, AI Servo AF, AI Focus AF, Manual focusing (MF) and a 7-point Auto Focus system thereby allowing users to lock onto a subject in a fraction of a second. It comes with an Auto Lighting Optimizer to control lighting in high contrast areas and its Picture Style Settings will give you in-camera color, contrast, and sharpness control.

The Canon EOS 1000D is powered by a Canon LP-E5 Battery Pack. Included in the box are EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS Lens, an Eyecup Ef , Wide Strap EW-100DBIII, Video Cable VC-100, USB Interface Cable IFC-200U , Battery Pack LP-E5 , a Battery Charger LC-E5 and an EOS Digital Solution Disk and Instruction Manuals. This camera is USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compliant and PictBridge compatible.

The EOS Integrated Cleaning System of the Canon EOS 1000D helps to protect images against the effects of sensor dust. The shutter speeds for this model can range from 1/4000 sec. to 30 sec., bulb, and X-sync at 1/200 sec. The Rebel XS is compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards.

  • Is this camera good for a novice?

    I mean I have experiece with taking pictures, but I don't want to be overwhelmed with features and such... is it easy to use?

    The 1000D places itself somewhere between the 400D and 450D. If you are familiar with the basic workings of a dSLR, then you should not have problems navigating your way around the 1000D. It takes many of the new features of the 450D and presents them in a lighter, less expensive format. The 1000D however does not have wireless remote release like the 450D and 400D, but does allows for custom ‘My Menu’ settings.
