Six years later, still snapping

Boinng, Ciao

  • Excerpt: I've owned this camera for six years now, and taken many thousands of pictures with it (the counter is on 7,500+), at times and places that perhaps many other cameras would have let me down. When I bought this back in 2002 I was used to using SLRs and "serious" film cameras, but I wanted my first digital to be a camera that I could pretty much take anywhere, and simply rely on for a great shot - and that's exactly what I got.
  • Pros: Reliable, durable, great images
  • Cons: Small battery, low pixellage by modern standards

Iyts 64mb memory space can store many pictures(400 pics). its rugged aluminium case give it a more funky look. it also make it much stronger and durable.

  • Excerpt: I believe this camera has now been superceded by another version of Digital Ixus. I bought this camera in July 2000 as I was undertaking a Computer Arts course. Overall it has come in very useful for both fun home pictures and pictures for digital editing. It is a reliable, hardwearing camera, that is a good buy for people with a little digital knowledge!
  • Pros: Range of functions, hard wearing, reliability
  • Cons: Ease of use (on Occasions)

  • Excerpt: This little Canon Ixus V digital camera packs a big punch. It has loads of facilities for such a small camera such as Movie with sound and the ability to make it as easy or as complicated to use as you like. The quality is excellent both in the pics taken and the feel of the camera. It has a very rugged aluminium shell that also makes it look the dogs b£$$lks. Well worth it, but if you want really high definition pics than go for 3.1mp or higher.
  • Pros: takes great pictures
  • Cons: none

Get one if you can!

  • Excerpt: I bought one of these cameras when they first appeared on the shelves. At the time it was one of the shiniest, coolest bits of kit to be had. I bought a 128 mb card to go with it as the 8 mb one supplied was a bit meagre. Went home very pleased with my new bit of eye-candy! A year and a half later and I wouldn't give it up for the world. It's been halfway round the world with me too.
  • Pros: Ease of everyday use, quality of construction
  • Cons: Advanced menu a bit tricky

A nice little camera

  • Excerpt: I bought this on my way out to China to work so paid less as it was duty free. I find this camera very easy to use but it can be a bit fiddly when it comes to downloading pictures via USB. I find a flash card much more manageable. The battery life is good and with a memory card upgrade it's a superb purchase. Highly recommended. I'm quite an occasional photographer and I find that this is a great camera to keep around for those moments.
  • Pros: easy to use, great pictures
  • Cons: a bit big by todays standards, fiddly download procedure

Fairly good camera

wooballoo, Ciao

  • Excerpt: I bought one of these in Dec 2002. Its worked fairly well considering the bashing its had. The thing with a small camera is that you tend to take it to places (and in situations) where you are most liekly to break it e.g. the pub, a club or the beach. I'm fairly happy with it but the buttons are sticking a bit. Sometimes the power doesn't come on properly. A couple of times the battery has died with the lense still out which can be a pain.
  • Pros: Small, uses compact flash (cheaper and used more than SD cards), b & w looks nice
  • Cons: movie playback has no sound, shutter speed is not variable so can blur, buttons can become sticky

Good Quality Small Digital Camera

nero2, Ciao
11 March 2003
  • Excerpt: I bought the Ixus V as it was the smallest available digital camera at the time with the range of features I wanted. The picture quality is excellent, although it can be slow to take pictures and then with the long exposure time in low light, longer still. The video function, which can take up to about 15 seconds of footage, has actually been very useful - I never thought I'd use it!
  • Pros: compact, many picture options
  • Cons: no case included, slow to take photos

Another Funky DigiCam, by Canon

Neoxxy, Ciao
31 January 2003
  • Excerpt: This is the most smart camera i've had so far. It takes very fine pictures, and is very small, light, and easy to hold. It's got many features, such as lighting controls, macro-mode, scene mode, movie taking with sound (even though you can't preview the sound directly on the camera), and many more things and settings for people who enjoy playing around with these types of things. The software it comes with for downloading and archiving is very good (ArcSoft.
  • Pros: Small, compact, light, and durable
  • Cons: very few, i really cant think of any now
