Canon PowerShot SD1000 is a very good ultra compact camera supporting a lot of features. Canon PowerShot SD1000 offers 7-megapixels of resolution, a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch "PureColor" Multi-level LCD display, VGA sized movie mode as well as Canon’s new Face Detection AF/AE/FE technology. This camera is so simple that it can be used by any member of your family. Its functions are similar to the model SD600 but with extra feature, facefocus, improved digital zoom. The photo quality is good due to the 7 megapixels, and video shoot is of longer time. Canon PowerShot SD1000 is great especially for outdoor shooting. The CanonPowerShot SD1000 took 0.98 second to start up and capture its first JPEG. Following JPEGs took 1.48 seconds between shots with the flash turned off and 2.44 seconds with the flash enabled. Shutter lag measured 0.45 second in our high-contrast and 0.9 second in low-contrast situations. Continuous shooting wasn’t quite as fast as its 6MP predecessor, 1.7 frames per second regardless of image size. Canon’s face detection system is quickly and accurately detected most of the faces. However the face detection relies mostly on the subjects’ eyes, as the detection got slightly confused when one of the subjects closed his eyes. Image quality of the PowerShot SD1000 is excellent with accurate colors and plenty of sharpness. Canon keeps noise well under control from ISO 80 through ISO 200 at ISO 400 noise and ISO 800 brings significantly more noise, however images may be usable for smaller prints (4x6 inch.). It is strongly recommended staying below ISO 800 whenever possible and not using ISO 1600 at all. Nevertheless this camera is much better as compared with others in terms of ISO noise. Some complain that the battery/SD card compartment is not accessible when it is used with tripod.See less
