Reviews and Problems with Canon PowerShot S400 / IXUS 400 / IXY 400

Horribly out of date, yet still used as a main camera!

Summary: Obviously a very old compact. However, this camera is beautifully made and has an excellent lens as well as a larger than normal sensor. The pics are fantastic. Being only 4mp will put some off who think their pics will one day be blown up to house-wall size. The camera feel substantial, almost like expensive jewellery. Their were endless problems within the design which means that many have been thrown away.
Replacement for a broken camera; have custom dive case for it.

Summary: I bought the S400 because I had one (actually 2) that broke and I have the custom underwater enclosure for it. There are clearly better digital cameras available, but now I can record scuba experiences again without investing hundreds of dollars in a new enclosure.
Summary: I like this camera because it takes fine pictures and does what I expect in a job situation.I need this camera to make accurate time/date stamped pictures required for the type work I repairing houses. I like it because it is small compact and reasonably easy to use.It was also cost effective for a job site where tools are always around.
Summary: i own a CANON and have not been disappointed with my photos. I purchased this product for my son and new daughter to have for their new live together. Looking forward to many great photos to come.
Excerpt: I took the camera on a camping trip and took several hundred pictures without downloading them over the weekend. Anotehr thing I like about this camer is it’s metal body. the outside of the camera is made of a heavy metal, so when it accidentally drops, it never breaks…or even dents. I throw the camera in my purse usually and keep it with me all the time. I feel like it can stay in my purse without me worrying about brekaing it.
Summary: Buyer beware regarding this seller. Used this camera half a dozen times. I am ill so could not use it at first after using the camera half dozen times the camera image sensor went. Cannon told me this was a fault from a lot of usage over years was on the phone to Cannon. Told the seller this but he would not refund my money, he also not nice to deal with. Amazon would not help either as it was out of the time frame to claim....could not claim before as ill.
Summary: I bought this camera for my Graduation in 2004 and it lasted years - brilliant point and shoot, great display, great ease of use (even though the instructions I was sent were in French!!) Great optical zoom for the year of manufacture. I researched this camera fully at the time and it came up top in the reviews I read back then - it's better in my opinion than some of the new point and shoots being released.
Excerpt: "I've had this Canon Ixus 400 for 3 years and now have a 128 MB card in it meaning I can get a fair few pictures before the memory runs out. Before buying this camera I looked at quite a few compact digitals of similar spec in this price range and ended up opting for this because of its superior design and build quality. The design is one of the best features of the camera. It can withstand even the most hardy of knocks and bumps. Only this week ...
Summary: Coming in at under £170. This is an excellent all round camera. The auto mode makes it a great 'point and shoot' camera but there are enough manual features to keep even the budding professional photographer entertained. It has a solid feel to it and looks good in it's silver casing. Picture quality from the 4 mega pixel lens is excellent, battery life is very good and it has a lot of manual features that are usually found on more expensive camera .
