Great camera

Peter M, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: Great footage. I need to get better at color grading to really bring out the best in it. Easy to use, not much learning curve. Works fine for studio setups and documentary-style run & gun. LCD is a bit dim but useable in bright sunlight. Needs external mic and/or recorder for useable sound. Manufacturer releases firmware updates frequently, often with useful feature upgrades.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Great Picture Quality
  • Cons: Poor Sound

Niche camera

  • Excerpt: Any camera is but a tool in the larger context of a workflow. If you are shooting weddings, it's unlikely you will have the luxury of colour grading. Well in this part of the world where I live, where weddings are quick turnarounds, whatever you shoot in the day must be edited and screened during banquets in the evenings.

  • Excerpt: I purchased this camera, because I had been using DSLR's but I wanted something, with a little more of a cinema feel to it., this camera had that and more. Yes I read earlier reviews, and its true this is not a run and gun camera, you have to buy accessories to accompany it, but the quality is excellent, I'm currently working on several short films, and Even without color grading the footage the picture quality is impressive, and even when the footage is compressed it...

Impressive camera. Amazing images!!

  • Excerpt: This camera truly shocked me. The image that this camera can produce (with the aid of grading) is very impressive. It's deceptive though in the fact that it shoots large to huge file size when it has the appearance of a point and shoot. The crop factor is a small set back, the right lens set or a Metabones Speed Booster definitely changes the game in that respect. It does tear through batteries and can fill a 64gb card pretty fast when shooting RAW.
  • Pros: 1080p Raw, Great Picture Quality, Prores Hq
  • Cons: Poor Sound

Big bang for the buck

Epoch Titan, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: The Black Magic Pocket is in no way a contender for a professional industry camera like a Red Epic/Dragon or an Alexa. But if you want great dynamic range for a reasonable price, you can't get a better bang for your buck. The main reason I purchased this was to maintain a low profile without sacrificing picture quality and this perfectly fits that criteria.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Great Picture Quality
  • Cons: Micro Four Thirds Mount

BMPCC Customer Service Is Terrible

Spike, B&H Photo
19 March 2015
  • Excerpt: This is a great camera but the MICRO HDMI port is poorly installed and can break easily. If you call Blackmagic they will do nothing for you and say it was user damage (yes I used your camera and it broke on me!).... Very frustrated and disappointed with this company right now.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Great Picture Quality
  • Cons: Poor Sound

Little camera packs a big punch.

Thunder Dan, B&H Photo
12 March 2015
  • Excerpt: The Bmpcc produces a beautiful image for a very low price. The video quality that comes from this little powerhouse rivals that of $10,000+ higher end cameras. Like even the higher end cameras, the Bmpcc has its share of flaws, but are easily worked around if you put in a little effort.

Love this little camera

Video to go, B&H Photo
27 February 2015
  • Excerpt: I have been downsizing my camera gear moving from SLR to mirrorless. This little camera fit the spot for the small bag video camera. It produces high quality images and great dynamic range. The cons...Eats batteries. Did a short documentary interview that took an hour and half. I used all four batteries that I had on hand. Dont know if the external mic added to the drain but the interview ended because I ran out of batteries.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Great Picture Quality
  • Cons: Poor Sound
