  • Summary: I knew roland made awesome stuff and the roland gaia sh-01 is just that. It is a perfect match to my digital grand. The tones are awesome. And the special patches added by sweetwater are cool. This synth is beyond cool.

  • Excerpt: Amazing keyboard and I cant believe that it only cost around 700 dollars. It passes many other keyboards in my oppinion just because of the ease of use and the price.

" Simple but very effective" - F

Machinery, Audiofanzine
31 May 2012
  • Excerpt: I've had it a month and I am completely happy. I owned an earlier Ultranova whose ergonomics, based submenus, was terrible, the tones were good only embedded in the internal effects, and that the audio via USB was catastrophic - perhaps because of drivers. I like the ergonomics of SH01 Gaia: it is simple, effective, well thought o...

"Infinite sounds"

James..., Audiofanzine
24 December 2011
  • Excerpt: Roland took a very simple concept and turned it into something that is infinitely versatile here. There is a big learning curve though. Learning how to use all 3 programs together so that you can get what you want out of it is crucial. I don't recommend this to people with no synth experience at all. But on the flip side, you don't need to b...

  • Summary: What I really enjoyed about using anaolog sythns was the fact you could modify the sound as you were playing and I was never convinced that digital was better. OK, some of the sounds were an improvement but I preferred the ability to tweak sounds easily: I had a Juno 60 which was 'tweaked' to my preferences.

  • Excerpt: The Roland GAIA SH-01 is the perfect little synth for those looking to get analog synth sounds without the hassles of it. You’re not going to encounter the same issues with this that you might a true analog synthesizer, which is definitely a good thing. The price of the Roland GAIA SH-01 isn’t outlandish considering the great instrument you’re...

  • Summary: The Gaia is an amazing synth and one that gets you jamming straight away. A word to the wise though - You have to READ THE MANUAL to understand it's full potential as some of the parameters are changed via a combination of button pushes and therefore not so immediately accessible. This aside, the Gaia is my favourite Roland synth for a long while.

  • Summary: First synth, really impressed. Very logical layout with loads of knobs and sliders have made it easy and fun to understand how sounds are built up. Good range of ear-boggling presets, and already found some more on the internet. Phrase recorder v useful but a bit difficult to use. Wish there was a way of downloading phrases from midi files via PC. Thanks for the advice, really happy!
