Deaf Cannot Hear

  • Excerpt: Why so many reviews of this unit are so negative on the net??? All complaints of sound being plastic/ thin are BS.Now to the truth, not only this VA synth, covers all categories of bass, leads, pads and FX; the controls are super easy and the learning curve is quick. Do yourself a favor a read the whole manual, it will not take more than an hour. Filters and appregio are excellent. Factory sound patches are superb. In my recordings it sits perfectly.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Portable, Pre-programmed music, Realistic Sound, Responsive / Good Action, Touch Sensitive Keys
  • Cons: Easy Access To Tempo Edit

Great value & a lot of fun

MARDONIX, amazon.com
3 January 2012
  • Summary: If you are looking for an affordable keyboard that allows you to capture that 80s analog synthesizer sound, look no further. Roland has included lots of easy & fun analog-like features into its GAIA SH-01 portable digital synthesizer. Three independent tone generators (featuring familiar LFO, Osc, Filt, Amp & ADSRs) can be layered in limitless combinations. Lots of knobs & sliders allow you to create infinite patches & save/recall them using onboard or USB storage.

Great board with versatility

  • Excerpt: There is a little learning curve on this one with the different sections. There are certain limitations...unless I just haven't figured out to get around the challenge. The benefits far outweigh the difficulties, so if you own one of these just stick with it.

Quirky but fun

Bob, amazon.com
6 May 2011
  • Summary: The SH-01 is a portable analog synthesizer based on Roland's proprietary virtual analog synthesis tehcniques, Unique features include three oscilators ("tones") per patch, with separate LFO/FILTER/AMP sections per oscillator. The separate sections turn each patch into mixing three synthesizers together into one note. This can be a little tricky to deal with, but the results are worth the effort.

Great synth for new players

Pete, JB Hi-Fi
21 July 2013
  • Excerpt: This synth is incredibly easy to use and its panel layout encourages fiddling. You can spend hours just playing with sound, it truly is special. For more advanced players, however, the 37 key keyboard may feel restrictive, but it does have the ability to have a larger MIDI keyboard for expansion if necessary. Sound is also subjective, but this one does lack a tiny bit of "Oomph", however for most this wont be an issue.

return of the Juno 60 in updated format

Mr. F. M. Havicon "alkemmy", amazon.co.uk
16 December 2011
  • Summary: I fiddled a bit with one of these down my local music supply store, and was happily impressed that the sounds and ease of use were an extremely close match to my favourite ever Roland synth the Juno 60 (bought it off Amazon and saved a bit). Recently I've been going back to the old-fashioned hardware style of making music, as my experiences with computer-based production led me to realise I could only ever do what the software allowed - and turn out clone type music...

Roland GAIA SH-01 synthesizer

Martijn Naber, bax-shop.nl
23 October 2012
