Nikons D 40 has some hallmark features that are also the base for the new D60 model,a good camera with some great features that are in a cost effective small package. Some of the things you can look for in the D-60 are the built in sensoring, cleaning and filter and the very same features that made them a watchword in cameras, such as the Active D Lighting and the Color Matrix metering from their D3 and D300.

Among those things you’re going to see in the Nikon D-60 model are:

# 10.2 megapixels

# Image Sensor Cleaning System

# Utilization of JPEG, NEF file formats

# Nikon F lens mount

# Auto and manual focus features

# Auto and manual exposure settings

# ISO 100-1600

# SD memory cards, SDHC compliant

When your pictures mean a lot to you and your photography isn’t just a hobby, you’re going to want something a bit extra.

These are camera features for the serious amateur, and the features will permit you to get some of the best photos out there on the fly.

The D60 is the latest refinement in Nikon's entry-level DSLR range. It is one of the smallest DSLRs ever made and features a simple feature-set, not to confuse people getting their first DSLR. Although it cannot be compared with high-end Nikon cameras, the Nikon D60 features strong ergonomics and build quality for its price. Read more

Basically, both cameras are great. I’m used to the Nikon menu structure more so than I am the Canon one, so it was the easier of the two for me to use. (I used a D40x for a photography class last year, so I had more than enough time to screw around with it.) Regular Joe doesn’t like to play favorites, and my hunch is that if you’re just starting out in photography—that’s who these cameras are aimed at—you’re not gonna tell much of a difference between them both. 3. Nikon’s D60 D-SLR; Next Step In Amateur Line-Up Has Some Inside Tricks

    Reviewer: Shutterbug
    01 July 2008

Nikon keeps cranking out new D-SLRs, most recently with the D3 and D300 (see Shutterbug reviews at www.shutterbug.com), and now, building on the great success with their amateur line-up of the D40 and D40X, the new D60. Sporting 10.2 megapixels (same as the D40X), the D60 has the lightweight and portable feel of the D40 series, with some extra tricks up its sleeve. Foregoing LiveView, which seems to be featured in most new D-SLR cameras these days, the camera incorpor... Read more

The Nikon D60 DSLR is an excellent Family DSLR for photographers tired of the limitations of Point-and-Shoot digital cameras. It is a compact and lightweight DSLR with the performance and responsiveness characteristic of much more expensive digital SLRs. Of all the DSLRs targeted to family use, the D60 is without doubt the best. It hand... Read more

With the D60, Nikon continues what's been an exceptionally successful line of cameras reaching back to the D40 (which is still widely available in the market as of this writing (June, 2008) at very low prices). As a follow-on to the D40x, the Nikon D60 maintains most of the same specs and features, but adds a number of minor features in the camera body and a new, better-quality VR (vibration reduction) kit lens, all at a list price $50 lower than its predecessor. For years now, I have held onto my Nikon film SLRs for any "serious" photography. My SLR kit was heavy - the motor drive alone held 6 AA batteries -- and bulky, but it was the only gear I trusted for demanding photographic tasks. Oh, I had my digitals as well. For a couple years I used my 6 Megapixel Fujicolor zoom camera for midrange shooting, and caught some great shots. But having to fight my way around the automation was a pain. When I finally lost a shot I really... Read more

Don't get me wrong the camera takes great pictures but for what you pay for you would not expect the camera to sound like that. [...] tried out 2 other D60's and they all made that annoying sound after the picture is taken. Tried a D40 and D80 which did not make that sound. The D80 was out of my price range currenlty so I picked up the D40 so far I have been happy with my Decision....2 thumbs up for Ritz!!! Read more

This is her first DSLR camera and she is going ballistic with it. We spent the weekend walking through gardens and parks so she could take pictures of everything. She now wants a zoom lense for it. Also, buy a case for it if you can, you'll need to to carry all the lense caps and cleaning stuff, or else the picture taker will always need a spare set of hands to hold things :o Read more
