Quality backpack

Cliff, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I wanted a camera bag / backpack suitable for hiking & bicycling. I love the fact that it doesn't look like a camera bag, the quality is excellent and it carries everything I need for day trips. It stays put bicycling and is comfortable fully loaded while providing safe paded storage for my camera equipment as well as room for other necessities for day tripping.

  • Excerpt: I purchased this Backpack so I could consolidate the number of cases required when traveling or just out and about. It can handle a lot... The 5549 BP handles and safely protects my Canon Digital EOS with extra lenses and accessories as well as my 15.5" laptop w/accessories leaving room for some extra clothes and snacks. Has side pockets for water bottles and whatever. Very comfortable.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Lightweight

Ideal day pack and flight bag

  • Excerpt: I have had this bag for over 3 years and love it. Great for short day hikes and ideal to fly with - I actually sit mine on the floor under my legs on a plane and can access headphones/food etc in the top.Side pockets fit water bottle. Tie loops underneath can be used for a tripod or camping mat etc but I tend to loop my Gitzo travel tripod over the chest harness.I can fit Cannon 5D III with GPS unit and tripod mount or my 1Ds III with 24-70mm on plus my 100-400mm and my...
  • Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Good Capacity, Lightweight, Versatile
  • Cons: Back Air Venting Ok, No Rain Cover

Not the bag for me... Returned it.

  • Excerpt: I own two other Tamrac bags which I am very pleased with. I needed a larger bag that I could still work out of and use while traveling, that would not only carry my kit, but would allow me to bring my laptop and other necessities on the road, so from my previous experience my first choice was Tamrac. I thought that this bag was the ticket, but I knew I was wrong almost immediately after receiving it.
  • Cons: Cumbersome, Hard To Access Equipment

Great capacity and weight distribution!

  • Excerpt: I loved this pack because of the red color. That way I could see someone running off with my gear! But seriously, this pack is great for accomodating my 17" laptop and all my necessary photography gear, plus extras. The perfect pack for a day trip, complete with snacks & drinks! : ) The only thing I've found wrong with it is that the zippers on the camera compartment are sometimes difficult to access when the compartment is open, but I suppose it is because of the flaps...

  • Excerpt: I have found this backpack to have ample space and protection for my photographic equipment, a slot for my laptop, which is perfect for flights, and still with a reasonable compartment for extra items, which is perfect for day hikes... Just what I wanted this pack for...

For light use

Fredo, B&H Photo
2 July 2011
  • Excerpt: I use the Adventure 9 for short photo hikes of up to 3 total miles. The waist belt has insufficient padding for longer trips. I use the laptop compartment for carrying a raincoat or wind breaker as I have no need for a computer on the trail. It will not accomodate my 17" Toshiba Satellite P305 anyway. An extra shirt or rainpants plus some snacks will fit in the upper compartment. The side stretch pockets are good for water bottles or trekking poles.
  • Pros: Adjustable Harness, Internal padding
  • Cons: Not Weatherproof, Thin waistbelt, Too snug for 17" laptop

  • Excerpt: I can fit my Canon T2i with a 18-200, a 100-400, a wide angle and so much more. It is comfortable and everything fits nice and snug. I am so glad I waited. There are others bigger but I am 5'4", not sure I could carry much more.

  • Excerpt: Purchased the Adventure 9 computer/camera backpack for my trip to Hawaii. Has all the room I needed for both my new laptop and my DSLR with 2 lenses and my flash. It is built very well, nice stitching all around, made from quality materials. I expect many years of use from it.

Tamrac 5549 Adventure 9 Photo/Computer review by cmm895

cmm895, slrgear.com
4 July 2010
  • Summary: I bought this bag a year ago after reviewing numerous reviews of a number of bags on the internet. I was after a bag that allowed me to take a camera, my lunch and a rainjacket for a day of hiking and not have a sore back at the end of it. Bags that allow you to do this are limited (most are built for holding camera gear only) but this bag does that nicely. The bag houses my Canon EOS 450D, two lenses and a 580exii flash comfortably.
  • Pros: good ergonomics, able to take water, food, rainjacket and camera gear for a day of hiking
  • Cons: Not waterproof
