Summary: The Sony RML1AM Remote Commander is surely expensive for what it does, however, there are some things to consider: If you buy this, is because you need it, not just to keep it in your bag just in case, if you happen to own a A700/A900, you can just get away with the wireless commander that comes with it. The problem with the wireless commander is that in order to use it, you got to set the camera to detect it, and this causes a HUGE drain of your battery.
Summary: This is a very useful tool when using my Sony Alpha with a tripod. The length of the wire permits to be very distant from the camera and this is great for nature photos or to avoid unwanted shadows in the scene.
Summary: I wasn't sure how much I would actually use this but find myself plugging it in my Sony A350 often. Great for shooting from a tripod and avoiding camera shake which occurs when you press your shutter release button. If you have moved up to using a tripod this is a need.
Summary: From still life, to action sports I have found the remote shutter control essential to making shots take the next step from good to great. Used in conjunction with a tripod your digital shots with the Sony A100 will markedly improve. The books and pro's sure are correct....even with shake compensation you just can't hold the camera still enough and physically pushing the button adds to the problem.
Summary: This truly makes a difference when shooting a variety of phots. A 'must have" for waterfalls, sporting events or anything with movement. I also use this for close-up and macro shots. Worth every penny and would recommend to anyone.
