Excerpt: This is an update to the Nissan MG8000. After using this flash for 10 months, I found it has performed poorly. The swivel head is so stiff and the shoe mount consistantly loosens on the camera. Also, as I had feared would happen the plastic foot has broken. The screw mount that holds the flash to the camera has broken internally at its base. There is a small plastic mount inside the base of the flash that holds the screw mount that has cracked.
Excerpt: I bought this flash right after they came on to the market and have not been disappointed. When I purchased it, it came win an external battery pack, an accessory that I love. I photograph an indoor, charity rodeo event every year and have had problems in the past with flash overheating ... this flash put an end to that problem. It just keeps firing and firing a lot of light. I was also pleasantly surprised with the secondary flash.
Excerpt: I use this flash as part of a lighting set illuminating indoor rodeo. I bought three to supplement the Nikon flashes I am currently using. I couldn't be more happy. The arena setting and kind of action taxes any strobe's abilities, but this product did the job flawlessly. Plenty of good light, no overheating and played very with the Nikon speed lights (SB600's & SB910). Menu system isn't bad - certainly a lot less confusing than the 910. Nothing is perfect ...
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easy To Use, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output, Versatile
Excerpt: I currently own 2 SB800 and a SB700. I bought this flash and it came with the Nissin PS-3000 for free (a $300 item). Its teoretically a great deal, but lets see how it performs in the field. I have shot 3 weddings so far, and so far so good, except for a few things. I will start with the positive first: The built quality of this flash pars with the SB910. Its definitely a big improvement from the SB800.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output
Cons: Bulky, Heavy, No Gels, No Wide Angle Diffuser
Excerpt: I recently purchased this flash on sale with the battery pack for free. This has been truly unbelievable. I thought "I would never pay that much for a flash". Well I paid for the flash and got the battery pack for free. So far, its been working like a champ. This is a great update from the sb800. If you want easy controls with lots of power then please don't look any further. This flash keeps going and going. its only 2 button pushes to get to different functions.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easy To Use, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output
Excerpt: I purchased the MG8000 flash to use for wedding and event photography. I also use Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flashes. I was attracted to the MG8000 due to it's resistance to heat while in use. I work in a year around warm climate and I have had considerable problems with Canon Speedlights due to overheating. The Nissin MG8000 has performed non-stop. Although there are some issues to be concerned with.
Pros: Easy To Use
Cons: Inconsistant Ttl Output, Not weather sealed, Pricey, Slow Recycling
Excerpt: The MG8000 is powerful, has sturdy construction, and has intuitive controls. Unfortunately, unless you purchase the Nissin battery pack (which is expensive) the recycle time using rechargeable AA batteries is about the same as other flashes (about 1 second). The head of the flash unit is larger than normal flash units because it contains vents. This means that ordinary flash diffusers may not fit.
Pros: Durable, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output, Versatile
