Excerpt: The hood works as well as one can expect a hood to work on a zoom lens, but, it angles out so much that you can't effectively store it on the lens. You wouldn't be able to fit the lens into any reasonable bag or storage accessory. Not only that, but, it looks ridiculous due to its highly angled design. It's great to have the protection a hood offers but, in this case, I make a rare choice to go without the hood.
Excerpt: Sometimes the most minor link in what is otherwise an expensive set of photo equipment can be a simple hood made for a specific lens, and that link can be a necessary part of good, and reliable image-making. I never use a lens without its hood, not just for shots into the sun but for all the ambient light that surrounds me, even indoors; and B&H has come up with a Nikon hood for a lens that I purchased used and is no longer a Nikkor product.
