Works As Advertised. Overpriced

JPMc, B&H Photo
9 April 2014
  • Excerpt: If you shoot in bright light a lot a lens shade is a must. It also protects the front lens element from damage. You can also reverse the hood and store it on the camera. For a piece of plastice it's overpriced.
  • Pros: Easy to Use

24 October 2013
  • Excerpt: Works well on the SX50 HS. Did not seea any vignetting, as described by other users. Not useful at all focal lengths, but easy to leave in place. Can't use this on the SX60 HS at the same time as the filter holder.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Lightweight

Fits tight

Photog Doug, B&H Photo
18 September 2013
  • Excerpt: One must make sure it is aligned properly on the lens & even then it fits tight. Tight enough it feels like you might break something twisting it on. It cannot be used in combination with the filter adapter. It seems fairly minimal but hopefully it will prevent some glare & damage to the lens.
  • Pros: Durable
  • Cons: Difficult To Use

Akward to install

Pops, B&H Photo
13 August 2013
  • Excerpt: I have an SX50HS which lists this hood as an accessory, yet Canon only lists it for the SX30IS and SX40HS.I had difficulty fitting it for the first time. Easier now that I have the hang of it. The mould looks like it was unprofessionally modified for the SX50HS. It does fit but you have to be careful on install and removal - not a fast task since you don't want to damage lens or hood, but for the price, ok by me. Canon should redesign mounting.
  • Cons: Difficult To Use, Poor Design

Lens Hood for Canon SX40 HS

PETE, B&H Photo
18 July 2013
  • Excerpt: A necessary item if you are in a State with lots of sun. Also, this item does protect the lens of this powerful telephoto camera. I find nothing wrong with this product - it is always best to purchase the accessories manufactured by the camera manufacturer.

  • Excerpt: The hood is a very well made product. Works great on my wifes Canon SX50only issue is really with the camera Canon SX50 design that does not allow use of a filter and the hood at the same time unlike other bridge cameras.

Works like a charm!

PhotoRichard, B&H Photo
21 May 2013
  • Excerpt: I actually use this on my brand new SX50. Fits nice and snug. In addition to shielding the sun, it also protects the lens. I tend to place the camera on the top of my dashboard when driving around. It gets bumped around and the lens hood protects the lens and stabilizes the camera.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Reliable
